Default Luckiest man alive!

Yesterday a semi truck swerved into my lane and his front wheel hit my front wheel going about 60-70 mph. I was knocked onto the shoulder and almost went off the road. The awesome brakes and handling definitely kept me from going into the ditch and into a river that runs along the highway. The insane thing is that the only thing damaged (that I know of so far) is the front left wheel. Picture below. Im taking it to the dealership Monday morning to get the suspension checked out and order a new wheel. I have no doubt that the handling of this car kept me out of the river and alive. Hopefully after a new wheel and a clean pair of shorts Ill be back on the road. Be safe my friends.

I am far from an expert...but I wonder if that wheel might be reparable? Are there any cracks or are those only surface scrapes? Is the wheel bent?

BTW - glad you are okay! That's the most important thing. Everything else is replaceable...

The truck driver's insurance will pay for damages? If so then by all means get a new wheel. Otherwise it can be easily repaired for less than $200.
I use to race on a regular basis and damaged wheels were a regular occurrence.
There was a place called the "Ole Wheel Shop" which became my second home.

Glad you're ok!

In 2012 I drove over a piece of scrap metal on a hwy in Buffalo on a road trip from Canada. I was driving 95mph and instantly blew the rear tire and cracked the wheel. I was so shocked how stable the car was with the blown tire and wheel at speed.

Dont ask about the story of getting a flat bed from buffalo to Toronto on a Sunday. Took me 11hrs from the tire pop to home

I don't see cause to worry about having that wheel repaired but in your shoes I'd prefer to have it replaced just on principle.

I'd recommend you get your alignment checked and make sure everything is where it ought to be. You might just have your dealer do it. If the alignment is still in spec you're probably good to go with just a new wheel. If it's out significantly you may want to get the car looked at further, check the suspension components, pickup points, etc. If this is the case, you'd want to ask your dealer about Porsche certified shops and be willing to wait for an appointment if you have to.

If you just replace the wheel, make sure the car isn't listed as an accident damaged car. And if does end up with an accident listed on your Carfax/etc., you should check into whether diminished value can be claimed in your state (google your state's laws would be a decent place to start).

No, that would be ridiculous. DV if either the carfax shows an accident or if the suspension is mangled behind the wheel and repairs are needed. If he buys a wheel and all is well, then indeed all is well.

Glad it was not more serious. I agree you are very lucky coming away from getting hit by a semi! Long live the 911 and good driving skills!

Wowsers..... that some good heads up driving on your part.

I would have needed a new drivers seat and steering wheel.

I would have crapped myself and gripped the wheel so hard my finger imprints would be permanent.
