Here’s how the typical dealer gets to $850 for an oil change:

Labor: 1,25 hours @ 250 / hour (“WSM Checks” / “Courtesy Inspection” occurs during oil drain. Code scan happens when service interval reset.)
All parts at 200% *porsche list* price:
Oil Filter Element: $64
O-ring: $24
HVAC Intake Filter: $44
Cabin Filter: $154
0w-40 Oil, 8 quarts @ $24/qt = $192

Parts: $478
Disposal Fees/Environmental Hazard $59.50 (this is just “slop” to make the total 850, misc fees will vary.)
Labor: $312.50

@charlierogers if you've done z06 oil changes then you shouldn't have any probs. Just be sure not to round out the oil pan drain screw. I seen evidence of this from a dealer service might I add.

I'd recommend going with new oil pan drain screw if not already ordered.

BTW - you should follow up with the dealership to quote you for plugs and engine filter change lol. That would be interesting to hear after reading your quote for $850 for an oil change. Wow...... highway robbery. Surely that was not just an oil change?

On that note, the 991.2s, at least the non-“Turbo” 991.2s, use a plastic oil drain plug. I don’t know if this is the case with the actual .2 “Turbos.”

If it *is* the case, I recommend getting the appropriate tool for those:

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben.../019532sch01a/

I got that to work on our 718s. Works perfectly.

i did order a new drain plug from suncoast with the new filter kit. and yes the $850 was JUST the oil change. they did say they were going to top off all fluids

I just got mine done at a P dealership and it was exactly $384 which included a brand new loaner car with 8 miles on the clock (Macan S).

Not sure where you are located but I will give them a call and ask some serious questions.

They saw you coming from a mile away. Go to an independent Porsche shop. Probably closer to $300.

they did not "see me coming" lol. price was over the phone. service department told me $850 after i asked how much for a oil change. they did not give me any specifics other than checking tire pressure and topping off all fluids with oil change. i would think they would take just a minute of there time to explain if there was more than that included. i have less than $100 in parts {new Porsche oil filter/gasket/ drain plug with crush washer. 10 quarts mobile 1 a-40 cert} i can put the car on my lift and have this done in 30 minutes. no need to even pay $300.

received parts for oil change yesterday and completed oil change. about 45 minutes all in. longest part was waiting for oil to drain {20 min} should of warmed up engine longer. very easy job. was a little tight on top because engine lid {hood} does not go up very far due to being a convertible. also spent about 10 minute looking for the damn dipstick. had to google where it was lol. anyway filled in 8 and 1/4 quarts and its showing 1 bar below maximum. i think i will leave it there?

I haven't done one yet but based on all the times I've seen it I'm pretty confident it would go without incident. My only concern is lifting the car as I don't currently have anything to do it.

Yes. Leave it there. I target 2/5ths on the dipstick.

I've done it without even lifting the car. You can just reach under. Worst case back up on a couple 2×4's.

This approach does not afford the opportunity to do a thorough inspection of the car from underneath.

Even if you don’t know exactly what you are looking at when you do “an inspection” you sure ought to be able to see leaks or evidence of leaks. As in many things, early detection is paramount.

100%

Many DIYers aren't aware of all the periodic checks (many of them visual) that are done at a good Porsche dealer or reputable Porsche indy shop when taken in for any of Porsche's required service schedules. It also explains much of the higher dealer and shop cost because it takes time. Just changing your oil without checking all the things Porsche dealers are supposed to do can be catastrophic, as I was reminded of 1 week ago.

One of my local PCA chapter members had his 997.2 C2 cab totaled by the insurance company because the floorboards were flooded compromising all the electronics under the seats while sitting in a 2" per hour severe T-storm. It was caused by clogged drains, which are one of the items on Porsche's checklist of things that should be inspected annually.

Shops that are charging bargain prices for oil changes aren't doing nose-to-tail inspections.
