Anyone Go From 997TT to 991TTS?
I currently have a manual transmission ‘09 997TT and I’m getting an itch to move into a 991.2TTS. I’m curious to hear any feedback/thoughts from those who have made the change from a 997 to 991. I’m torn because I love rowing through the gears in my ‘09, which is pushing about 730HP with its current setting, and the overall experience is raw and awesome! Having said that, there are many times I wish for a more refined experience but still having plenty of power on tap when needed, and the 991TTS is such an amazing and beautiful platform. I can only have one or the other. At times I wonder if I’d have major regret setting the 997, but I also wonder how much I’d really think about it while behind the wheel of a 991TTS. I welcome any experiences or insight from others. Thanks!

I went from a 997 TT manual to a 991.1 TTS PDK and never looked back. I thought I would regret the move to PDK but after driving it and seeing how amazing it actually is I just moved forward. So many other upgrades including interior moving to the 991.
The 997 TT was my 4th TT Porsche all manuals so it was a big change but no regrets b

I went from 997.2 TTS to 991.2 TTS, both pdk, and the difference in performance and "rawness" was very small. The biggest differences are the ones you can easily see (i.e., styling). The switch from 6 speed to PDK is a much bigger difference than the difference from 997 to 991. I'd be more driven by the desire or lack of desire for a manual than the differences between 997 and 991. Your mods also probably are a more significant change to the car's performance and character than the diff between 997 and 991.
I like my pdk, and am glad I have it, but only really because I have other cars that are manual, so the 991 does not need to satisfy that dimension for me. If I did not have a manual otherwise, I'd prefer a 997 turbo manual to a 991.2 TTS as a sole sports car.
Good luck, tough choice.

I also went from a 997 TT to a 991 TTS. My 997 had a manual transmission with the factory short shift option, and it was a pleasure to own and drive. That said, I agree with @Penn4S and I have also never looked back. I drive my 991 TTS in manual mode most of the time and I really enjoy it. I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t miss the manual transmission sometimes. However, the 991 platform excels and is a big upgrade in so many ways over the 997 platform that I don’t miss it overall. I’d make the same choice again given the opportunity. The first thing that I noticed when I upgraded to the 991 was the chassis and ride quality. The 991 feels remarkably planted and stable compared to the 997. Again - I loved my 997 (and the 996 before that) but the 991 is the best Porsche that I’ve ever owned by a large margin.

I actually think you might regret it. You have your car dialed in, and manual 997 turbos are special. I might reacquire a 997 at some point. The 991 is great, but not in a different league vs 997.

Thanks for sharing and glad to hear you’ve got no regrets! This is my first 911 and I’ve done so much to get the car well sorted, so there’s a bit of a bond there. But I’m giving much thought to making the switch and hope that I too won’t look back with regret. Do you feel the 991 is as exciting and engaging as the 997? I’m sure its different.

Do yourself a favor and test drive/cross shop with the 991.2 GT3, manual and PDK. Both transmissions are fantastic and the cars offer an epic mix of an updated and raw experience. I have all, see sig, and the PDK RS is my favorite. Its so wild, yet modern and comfortable. I don't drive the turbo S much now after getting the GT3's, as the GT cars are much more involving, sound way better and are a blast to drive. It may not be that way for everyone, but it is for me and I know a lot of former 996TT and 997TT people that feel the same as me and moved to the GT3. You should really drive one if you are going to the 991 platform.

I will say that I occasionally miss the power delivery from my 997 TT. It had significant turbo lag, but when the boost came online it was quite a ride! The 991 TTS has a little bit of lag, but it is nothing compared to the 997. The 991 is definitely faster, but you don’t always get the same sensation of that rush of boost. The 991 gives you much more linear acceleration, and before you can look down at the speedometer you’re doing triple digits.
I will also say that the 991 TTS with PDK has more of the SuperCar feeling that you get when you drive a Ferrari or a McLaren. It feels like it belongs with that group of cars.
Whatever you decide, enjoy the process!

I currently am fortunate to have both cars, a 997.1 turbo manual and a 991.2 turbo S. I view the 991.2 as more of a grand touring car. The pdk provides stunning acceleration and the car has a luxury feel to it. Great for long road trips. It makes me smile every time I drive it. The 997.1 feels like more of a sports car. It is lighter, more analog, and a ton of fun. It makes me smile every time I drive it. Would not want to part with either of them. Not a bad choice to be made.
