I've owned a Boxster S for about 8 years, and now have the itch for a 911. I like the look and oomph of the turbos (side air intakes!). There seems to be a number of 991.1 Turbo S's on the market recently, competitively priced. So, some questions for the experts - Are there any general issues with the 991.1 S Turbos - are they expensive to maintain? And, are they primarily "track and mod" cars, or are they also sporty but comfortable backroad Sunday afternoon touring cars (which is what I'd use it for)? And finally - what should I be cautious about? With a PDK transmission, how can I tell if a car has been tracked? Trying to decide if this is the right model for me - thanks in advance.
Great choice! Get cpo if you can. They are pretty bullet proof but you never know. I favor .2 for apple carplay and the better looking steering wheel. Loads of mods available that will drain your bank account for years if you want to go down that path. But it isn’t necessary. It’s been a daily driver for me for years and capable and very fast at the track. I think you’d have to be a very good driver to get everything out of the car on the road or track prior to needing mods. It does everything well. Complaints are is that it might just do it too easily and people say they don’t get enough driver input. Everyone is different. These cars are fantastic. Plent available for sale. Get a good PPI and check for paint work. For odd or pts colors there is a premium to pay. I would have them check the car with a paint meter to make sure that no paintwork has been done. Good luck with your search!
My 991.1 Turbo S has been extremely reliable and overall a wonderful car. Mine is a weekend cruiser. It’s wonderful for that purpose. It’s comfortable, fast, and fun to drive. It took it out yesterday for the first time in several months and did some canyon carving with the top down. It was great fun. I rolled past 38,000 miles on the odometer! I highly recommend the 991 Turbo S.
I bought a CPO 2015 991.1 Turbo S cabriolet in October of 2020 with 38K miles
It is just about to turn 50K miles and has been a great car.
This is the longest I have ever owned a car.
Buying a CPO car is highly recommended, repairs on these cars is costly.
I had a Turbo replaced free of charge, it was probably just a boost leak, but they just replaced the entire $7K turbo.
I added aftermarket Apple carplay to mine.
Performance mods are easy on this car after your CPO expires.
At the beginning just do a 3" x-pipe for more sound.
If you could swing for a 991.2, you get Apple carplay and much better performance gains with mods due to larger Turbos.
Don't rule out the plain Turbo - a little less power but you'll never miss it. Have a 2016 991.1 and like red calipers/iron brakes, 5-lug wheels, do my own oil changes, cabin/frunk filters and wipers. Negotiate with my dealer the major service (plugs, engine air filter, serpentine belt) every 4 years or 30,000 miles . It's one hell of a ride.

this. Just tune the ecu and you pretty much have an s
I have a 2015 Turbo S, it's coming up on 50K miles and it's been absolutely bullet proof. Mine is a daily driver 12 months of the year. I don't track it, but country back roads is where it really shines. I highly recommend any 991.1 or .2.

Yup, repairs are particularly costly when replacing stuff that isn't broken!

If you want a 911 which is versatile, fast, and fun on the road, with ability to be tracked, 991.1 or 991.2 TT/S is a great choice. 4S is also a great choice at a lower performance and price point.
I’ve had my ‘14 TTS for close to eight years and 55K miles. Perfect when I bought still perfect now. Custom tune from Sam at ByDesign, Europipe exhaust for that perfect Porsche sound, DSC V3 for upgrade ride and can’t see ever getting rid of it.
Never a maintenance problem.
