Cool ScorchTV's - ByDesign XR-EvoSpec Build

Before we start I had the car built a while back and encountered issues after issues. So the car already had a lot of work done in the form of the following:

Evospec 4.0 Full Build motor

Xxxx turbo kit

Xxxx fuel system

Syvecs S7

991.2 trans
So here we are… Scorch Build V2.0

First and foremost this is not a bashing post or anything like that so I won't mention people/shops etc.. Just letting my people know where I've been, my experience and where I'm going. This project started over 2 years ago… where we encountered a few setbacks including one that took 2 years to figure out and resolve. This issue was centered around the car not being able to perform a clutch relearn, I'll spare you the details and skip to the end. The clutch itself was out of spec and was part of a bad batch from Dodson amongst other things.

When I first set out to do this build my plan was to build a 1500hp monster, between one thing to another now we’re here. I was not completely satisfied with the car so I began to tear it down and formulate a plan where I am more involved because as everyone knows I like to do most of my work where possible as then everything is exactly how I want it to be.

I will begin posting some pics of the differences between products I'm moving away from and moving towards. This is not meant for bashing or calling another product inferior but as it goes in a niche market I don't see much information on products as shops like to keep their recipe secrets.
I will be breaking this build up into different more detailed sections for everyone to be able to follow along and maybe have discussions about.

Part 1 - Intake Manifold

Part 2 - Hotside Turbos, Manifolds, & Exhaust

Part 3 - Intercoolers and IC piping

Part 4 - Fuel System

Part 5 - Drivetrain

Part 6 - Electronics

Part 7 - Engine

Below you will find the overall high level build
  • Evospec billet block
  • Evospec 991 GT3 heads
  • Bydesign Race Inconel long tube race exhaust Manifold (will be replaced by Evospec race manifolds)
  • Bydesign Billet Intake Manifold
  • Modified IDP Y-pipe
  • Bydesign Methanol
  • Direct Port Nitrous
  • AMS Intercoolers
  • Wavetrac differential
  • ID2600xds Injectors
  • T1 brushless fuel pump and badass controller
  • Dodson 11 Plate clutch
  • Trans billet pan
  • Diff bracing
  • Xona Rotor big boy Turbos
  • Custom lines as turbos are being relocated
  • 4’ Ti exhaust
  • Vanjen HD Clamps on all charge piping
  • Syvecs AWD Controller
  • GT3 throttle body
  • Dual system catch can
  • All sensors on both banks

Part 1 - Intake Manifold

So after starting to dial in the send it map we encountered some issues with one of the DI injectors.. Not a big deal removing the intake manifold and swap it out. Once I got in there it was the last straw for me and I decided to pull everything from the previous build and start over.

Pictures of the manifold that was on the car.

Whether it be NA or FI air likes an uninterrupted path and balance between banks (equal length runners etc.) These engines are extremely picky about these things and back pressure on the other side.

Wow. A picture is worth a thousand words!

Did you remove the manifold with the engine still in? Did you lower it at all.

Agreed.
Yes I did, I just loosened up the rear subframe bolts a little but nothing crazy.

Finally good to see another build thread that's basically on par with mine. One thing that does stand out vs mine would be the Evospec billet block. I was talking to John about it but he said it was far away. Would love to see more info on that when the time comes

Thanks! Love your build and attention to detail! Yea I have a lot bigger turbos, GT3 heads which are a game changer and the billet block which first batch will arrive soon. My goal is well north of 1600rwhp

If I had a welder on staff that produced a piece like your original manifold, I would have fired him on the spot - that was atrocious work.

Now, that new By Design one, is a piece of art in comparison.

Looks like it's going to be a quick car...

As a Mod, one must be impartial and non judgemental.

Still, between you and me, I think the napkin was a waste...
