Default Interior Smell

I did a search but I don’t see anything on this topic. I’ve test driven 3 CPO’d 991.2 Turbos. 2 of them had a strange odor on the interior. It seems to be related to the venting system. I presume that these used cars may have been sitting for a while and also didn’t have there air filters changed, but it still seems strange to me.

I got in a new 991 C4S Targa and no smell. Just a faint smell of a new car (the car wasn’t a loaded with leather, so it didn’t smell of leather).

I’ve decided to buy a CA based car and the dealer is going to steam clean the interior and then use an Oxidizer to take the smell out.

Anybody else come across this issue?

It wasn’t a smokers car. The car came from southern CA and has no accident reports or any damage whatsoever. The other one that had a odor had a clean bill of health also.

Replace your cabin filters and see if that helps.

ozium can help with this sort of thing. if that doesn't work, get an ozone generator and run it overnight.

Unfortunately some folks smell. Money does not always account for cultural differences in personal care. If it's embedded in the leather interior I would say pass. If you already bought then try a good interior clean by pros and cabin filter change immediately.

I think my car interior smells even better as it ages.

It’s a musty smell like it’s in the leather, almost like a laundry hamper or an old ac duct?
i smell it in a lot of used porsches
but it seems like all the leather in the car not just the used areas, it’s hard to tell, the salesguy said it might be moisture from the interior cleaning

i’d just do a full leather cleaning and maybe drape a hide in the car to let the hide smell linger in the cabin for a while, that should get the leather back to leather smell

Mine smells like leather too. Smells great.

I run my AC at 70 degrees with airflow set to strong so there is zero sweating in my car!
