Default Has anyone cracked a BBS or HRE on the street ?

My next weight loss mod is wheels. I really like the look of the factory forged wheels, but BBS and HRE lightweight is another 24lb drop in weight. Plus it’s rotational.

Dropping that much weight from a factory forged wheel is a little worrisome.

I have HRE non lightweight on my F90 with zero issues.

Anybody crack a lightweight eight on a pothole, etc ?

I’ve had my BBS FIR wheels in my 991TT for 2 and a half years and there have been zero issues in Dallas and now in Boston.

PS those factory forged wheels are also BBS.

I couldn't be happier with the centerlock BBS FI-R wheels that I have on my turbo. They're lightweight, gorgeous and easy to keep clean.

Thanks for the comments ! Is there anything lightened on a Factory 991.2 GTS wheel as compared to a Factory 991.2 Turbo S wheel ? I keep reading the 991.2 TTS factory wheels weigh 23lbs front and 27lbs rear. Pictures are posted here of the 991.2 Factory GTS wheels on a scale at 20.7lbs front and 25.7lbs rear. With BBS at 17.4lbs front and 20.8lbs rear .....that's a 16.3 lb savings....not 24lbs....starting to drop off the benefit scale even though it is rotational weight.....

Are Factory GTS wheels lighter ??

Default I cracked an hre on my tt996

Didn’t even know it was cracked but I was having them refinished at a shop and they noticed and fixed them. It has a big lump but it drives fine and cannot be seen unless unmounted.

Awesome wheels. I have a silver TT cab too. These are calling my name. Did you consider black ones? Either way - they (and your car) look great with the BBS wheels.

GTS Factory wheels are lightly different specs than Turbo.

In any case BBS FIR are amazing.

Best mod i have made so far.

Those pictures are killing me ! BBS looks like a Porsche OEM upgrade. ! The design of the wheel really works well.

I'm not a big fan of black wheels anymore. I kind of feel like that was a fad that's gone out of style. My wheels are platinum gloss and I wouldn't mind if they were even brighter and shinier. Maybe brushed silver.

Not sure if this is true, but I've heard these wheels can be hard to find during certain times of the year. Supposedly they're made on the same production line as BBS' Formula One racing wheels and they aren't in production year round.

Cool. Anyone who is into high end knives knows that Japan has amazing steel. Thank God they aren’t made in China!

The BBS are made out of a higher metal than the HRE which are t6061, from what I remember the FI-Rs are from the 7000 series, i think its called duraluminum. So on paper the BBS are stronger.

In the real world I dont see either cracking, for example a buddy had an RS7 on 21 HRE P107's, Philadelphia roads in March post salt, hit a crater, wheel was bent, everyone expected it to be cracked and this is in a much heavier car with bigger wheels. If a 4500lb+ car on 21's only bent a wheel, to crack a 20 on a TTS either BBS or HRE, the car would have to totaled lol.

I'm partial to team BBS also.
