Got back on the bike this weekend. 20 miles was easy. 30...shoulder started hurting. Gonna take a while to get fully healed and back up to my pre-surgical level of fitness. Should be a good challenge getting there.

 

 

So I finally took delivery of my Canyon Aeroad CF SLX Disc Di2. Initial impressions are very positive. Super fast, super stiff yet comfortable. A bear in crosswinds (was almost in tears trying to keep it straight when riding back solo with 15+mph gusts).
All in all, great bike. Not sure if I got the right size. Maxed out on the seat rails when using same measurements as my endurance Cervelo R5. Fortunately I also ordered a small so I can try them both and decide what works better.

unless you have bad lower back issues, once you are sized on a bike, you are usually 1 size smaller (this only works with frames that jump in 2cm sizing, wont work if they are small, med, large, etc). [i measure 55-54cm, i ride 52 on specialized and cipolini but 49 on pinarello]

smaller frames helps climbing but sometimes twitchy descending so pick ur poisen

whatever bike you are sized to, is the more stable platform for you, then you can change it's handling from there. i not only ride on size smaller i also ride a short stem 100mm

lately i noticed more wind effect, mostly b/c i am paying more attention lol. even on enve 3.4 and zip 303, i felt cross wind on climbing (thats like 6-7mph riding speed only), i almost got blown and low sided off my bike..... luckily i was ascending, if i was descending that would be hell scary.

but for those who are heavier and/or not subjected to cross wind, i have one set of lighttweight meilenstein clinchers i want to unload. really nice condition. at 35% off msrp

For my standard enduro bike, I run a 100mm stem as well as a 42cm drop bar. For the Canyon, it comes with integrated bar, 1 piece aero design that is 410mm wide with 100mm length stem. I made the smart decision of ordering 2 Canyons, one in size small and one in medium. Since they are online only business, they have a very generous policy of try and buy. The are now out of small frames so if I would have waited to order, I could be looking at April/May time frame.
The small bike comes with 390mm width and 90mm length integrated cockpit which is too tight for me so I opted for a bigger cockpit, which is what comes standard on the medium sized frame.
I think I am between small and medium and can make either work. I was shocked and how little a difference the 2 frames made.
Going for a bike fit this Thursday and plan to use them both over the next few weeks to see which one suits better.

it was only recently that i started liking smaller frames.
