This is what I figured. Silver wheels shiny gloss, Satin wheels dull matte finish, but the colour is basically the same.

Modesta is just brilliant on wheels. They have a specisl formula that is sprayed on and then they cook them with these lamps one wheel at a time. Makes a big difference

It does provide a little protection

Are the Satin Platinum wheels XDH for $1,200 the same as the Satin Platinum wheels that came standard as a zero cost option on 991.1.

If so, what would be the reason to make them a $1,200 option on this generation, while making the Silver a no cost option.

To be clear, all wheel options have a clear coat, correct? Just because it is matte does not mean there isn't a clear coat. My understanding is maintaining a matte finish requires different soap and normal sealants/waxes do not work.

Is this the case with this wheel finish?

If you order PDK get the Matte Aluminum.
Because fastest color.

I posted this on another thread mentioning the Canadian site shows the standard wheel silver but the write-up says the standard wheel is satin Platinum. Yesterday the write-up said standard wheel is silver. Not sure what to believe.

I think that the US configuarator has a bug...

In 2D, the satin aluminum wheels correctly appear a shade or two lighter than the standard wheels (silver paint finish, highly polished). In 3D the satin aluminum wheels appear darker for some reason.

If the "satin aluminum" wheels for the new GT3 are the same wheels as the "matte aluminum" that were standard on the 911R, then the 3D rendering in the configurator is wrong. Saw a few 911Rs with this matte aluminum wheels and it was definitely brighter by a shade or two vs the standard silver wheels offered on Carreras.

Separately, I read something about the standard .2 GT3 wheel (silver paint finish, highly polished) being different from the standard Carrera S offering. Can anybody confirm? I believe that this is a new finish exclusive for now to the GT3.

Almost certain the Satin Platinum wheels offered across the 991 line are all identical 1) because they have the same name, and 2 because I haven't found a picture where they look any different.

I speculate Porsche has created a new standard offering for the 991.2 GT3 (silver paint, highly polished) in lieu of a new wheel design, and are up-charging for what was standard in the past (satin platinum) simply to recoup the cost of new standard fare and to make profit of course.

I cannot answer your question re clear coat. Although I have a 991.1 GTS with the standard matte black center lock wheels and don't believe there's any clear coat on them at all. Could just be a satin clear coat, but to me they seem rather porous.

Where are all the Porsche wheel experts (a.k.a. wheel nerds) when you need one?

This is a bit of a bummer. The silver on the 991.1 GT3 wheels looked spectacular. I didn't even notice that they replaced it with "aluminium satin".

I am sure that the platinum satin offered on 991.1 gt3 wheels and other 991 wheels is identical, a bunch of us color nerds looked up codes and mixing formulas. The silver is not, the silver on the 991.1 gt3 wheels was unique. And it looked great in person.

All these "satin" options seems very hard to repair just for starters.

just wondering which wheel looks nicer on .2 GT3 Fashion Grey Body, the Satin Alum or Silver wheel? any feedback or photos would be much appreciated thank you.

FYI, the gt3rs builder is still up on some sites (e.g. canada), so you can check what the previous silver paint looks like in the 3d builder (always use the pulldown menu when building one car to get to another car when the top-level page is missing the car you need).
