RS Allocation

Not that you need more advice but for me, 10K that's it. Congrats on your allocation if you take it. At the end of the day, you and only you need to be happy with your decision.

Op,
Only you can decide if a personally specced car is worth $20k more than a "delivery miles" used car.
When your car arrives 991RS will be at MSRP. This is the way Porsche does business. They try to satisfy demand -1. Like Macca said. A lot of RS made = a lot of cars to choose from when the next greatest comes on sale.

We all have different budgets. I personally don't mind waiting if it saves me $20k that I can spend on something else. I totally understand that the market is $20-40k over at the moment and have no problem with people paying that.

It's personal.
If you can afford it and want it now I think you can feel good about 40-50K over.
You were not lucky to get one at MSRP, so the reality is that you will have to pay to play a bit more but it's all relative.
Anything off the shelve probably gives you $20k in unwanted options or things you dislike anyway.
So unless you don't mind an off the shelve slightly used car a year from now for what, 25K less IF you can find the spec you love, just do it.
Most other fun cars will cost you $50k when you drive it off the lot..

OP,
I am going to be in your shoes in about 2 weeks starting my search for an RS. Worse yet, I have slot for a configurable .2 GT3 that I more than likely would get around this time next year and I still want an RS! For me an RS is an RS period. It's always been the end game for me. I'm not happy with Porsche for blurring these lines these however, twice as many RS's as GT3's? That bothers me, but not enough.
But you asked for an opinion. I'd pull the trigger at 10% over for configurable. Oh, make sure to have fun with the process, buying a GT car is supposed to be fun..

yes, price will drop. they all do.
finally, if one wasn't able to get an allocation today at msrp, it is highly unlikely he will get one at msrp the next round. and if indeed the next one, manual or 4.2 or.... is indeed the better car then it could be 100k over or more. at that ponit, many will move back to 991.1 variants and drive price up
i bught some cherry 996gt3 few years ago at 50k.
then 4.0 took off in price.
to the pont that most ppl simply cannot afford it.
so they step down and hunt for RS3.8. i sold my at 140k, but they are now at 180-200+
that's above comfort zone for many , so they then step down again to 7.1RS, whcih at one point was 100k, now 150-180.
same goes with 996gt3....
thus, the future of 991RS is uncertain. will they drop? maybe. but a lot of long time porschephiles are buying 2 or 3 copies of 991RS... why? i am not talking about flipper. i am talking about those buying them driving them and keeping them.

For a configurable allocation $30-50K depending on how badly you want it.simple as that.
There is a premium I paid to have it built exactly to my specs.

Well, guys paying over MSRP for a green 997.1RS back in 2007 or any 997.2RS may disagree about depreciation..
For some it's a shame to miss such an experience when the money won't even make a dent in the checking account. Though call for me as I can barely make payments and buy tires at MSRP.

I think what is getting lost here is .2 will come with material price increases on MSRP versus .1. Porsche would be foolish not to. And this will likely not deter additional mark-ups/market adjustments to MSRP in the marketplace. This will insulate .1 from material price hits. I have long thought as I beleiveve many here that the GT3/RS .1 MSRP is an outstanding value vs the competition.
IMHO.

may surpass them by the end of the run. IMHO, they will all be much closer to MSRP by the end of the year as new -2 model allocations start.

I think holding is out will serve you well, but at some point the inventory will deplete. Waiting for .2 has some material risk as the OP said possible price increase, and getting the allocation will be harder. If you can get a .1 the goodness you have a RS in the stable to have some good trade value to stay in the game. I scanned this list frequently, and got lucky and found the perfect car at 10% over MSRP. Good luck to all looking, but hunting down allocations at this point will be hard to acquire.
