Yes, all valid points, which leads to the only logical conclusion that Porsche needs to make bigger leap with the next 992 platform (which I think it will). I just hope it won't lose that classic 911 identity along the way, as Porsche introduces more technologies into its cars. The currently 991 GT2RS is a very engaging/challenging car to drive fast.
Agreed. The 720 may have active aero, but I suspect the GT2 actually generates more total downforce. The 720 excels due to having less mass, more power, hydraulically linked suspension, better weight distribution, stiffer chassis, lower center of gravity, less drag etc etc....

Why speculate when we have facts? The McLaren team chose their driver and time to make their run. They came in at 7:14. That’s a fact. It is what it is. Nothing else to consider.

BOP will equalize the class. The more important consideration for any racing car is parts availability and support. Porsche is still the best at this. I believe the next GT4 cars will be 718 based, NA and very competitive.

You can keep claiming the 7:14 should be compared to the 7:12 factory gt3 effort if you like but it's patent nonsense.

The turbo based torque you content is an asset is not always a positive attribute. GT4 class cars must use the TC system from the street car from which it is based. The Porsche Clubsport GT4, Audi R8 GT4 and Mustang GT4 all get better drive traction coming out of tight or slippery corners than the AMG GT4, McLaren 570 and BMW M4 GT4. Those cars are making their lap times with top end speed. The street TC systems generally don't handle turbo power well. Even some of the GT3 class turbo cars have struggled with traction using race TC systems. Just watch the Acura NSX, Cadillac ATS, McLaren 650 or BMW M6 through the slippery corners at Laguna or COTA and you can hear how active the TC systems are and how much better the drive traction is the NA cars.

your so called 'facts' aren't really accurate. The 720 was tested in 7:14 by a magazine with their driver (Horst von Saurma) and it was not a factory effort. The same mag/driver was 7:24 in the .2 gt3.

Seb: ^ Wow, had no idea that hitch was rated so high. Great setup, ha. Extremely annoying we can't get RS4/RS6 avants here in US... would love to get the latter for my wife, a genuine lead foot.
