Yep, and you do too if you are at COTA with 5 sessions a day (judging by your sig pic).

Yes, I typically run with 10/10ths Motorsports. They have (5) thirty minute sessions. Usually 25-30 miles per session.

Sounds like you won the new engine lottery.

Well...I guess you have a point!

I usually don’t log the first or last lap, as there is usually slow traffic for me to get by, and I am only doing 4 sessions on average. I generally call a weekend as 300ish miles. We are going to a new format this weekend, so I’ll re-evaluate that figure.

Good luck with your situation.

That's what I'm hoping! Any idea how fast of a process this is recently?

No idea but it shouldn’t take too long. Nice to have a new $50k engine dropped in. Jealous!

It could be bad plugs too. I had a similar issue, they swapped the coils and engine misfire moved to that cylinder. They replaced it and a month later I had the same code throw again, but this time the plugs were falling apart. No issues since the replacement of the plugs.

I too, am grateful for Rob and Co for I wouldn't own my current '14 GT3 with the original E series engine. Thank you!

17 track days since last July when I purchased
2550 track miles (best guess, 30 miles per session and 5 sessions per day, 17 days)

At dealer now after they ignored the bulletin and replaced #3 plug and coil. Stated that the misfire followed the coil. I picked it up and set the code again within 2 exits from the dealership. Returned vehicle and now waiting to hear back.
Hopefully its a new engine and you'll be back out soon. Your skill at changing centerlock wheels at the track for us will be sorely missed!

Default How many engines affected??

I am glad this blog is active again, even if due to misfortune of Kevin. It seems his misfortune will lead to a new engine. Very nice to have. Sadly it was never established what percentage of engines is affected. I have the G series. On the track

One of the magazines I get suggested that way more series one 991 GT3s were built than thought. It is speculated that 6,000 left the factory.

My impression of these failures is that racing them is a contributing factor. On the road you can do distance, but remain well under 9,000 revs most of the time. And that is driving half way legal! On the track if your revs are not up there you are not really trying. Add in the odd overenthusiastic downshift and the stresses on the engines are very high. In our country the motorplan is invalidated if the car is tracked.

IIR correctly from the group meeting debrief, Porsche indicated that there was a higher failure rate among cars that were babied-low revs, etc.

I think track guys are just more vocal about it. Probably just more vocal, period, lol.

Update,
Dealer has authorization to drop motor out for inspection. It seems they are heading in the right direction.

Nice!

I really need to get back out on track and start working my way to the G-series lottery.
