What does that have to do with exhaust note?

The 991 gt3 has some intake chamber noise piped into the cabin to artificially help its exhaust note. Perfect match with the doppelkupplung.
Problem is the 997s are so slow versus 991, unless they've had a LOT of work done (power or trans).

I read that as him saying the 7.2 RS note would win for him every time.

As you put it, what does that have to do with exhaust note...

We all know the pdk has the reaction time of a game controller.

The 997 can't match the 991 at the top end of the rev range, mainly because it can't reach as far, and the race-car "whump-pop" that you get from the exhaust with every PDK upshift is totally missing from the MT 997. 991 GT3 for the win....

That is ironic though because the 9A1 is not a race-bred engine, it began life as the same motor in my wifes 09 CarreraS, she makes the same :whump-pop" sound with her PDK too, nothing special. The "race cars" you are referring to are the 997/991 with the M97 and sequential box.

We all know the 9A1 in the GT3 is not race proven, yet if at all

Far from it, but time fly's. I take it you are a millennial and whole manual transmission thing might be confusing and stressful for you and alot of 991 gt3 owners. I'll tell you what though I will consider the 991 GT3 when I'm retired and asking wth happen to my social security contributions.

Yeah, the exhaust note of the .2RS gives me goosebumps once it's above 4k RMP while the 991 GT3 doesn't do the same for me.

The regular S does not make the sound Mike is referring to.

The downshifts in the 991 GT3 is epic.

Even better than the "whump" upshifts.

The title of the thread is "which year GT3 sounds the best", not which one has a racing pedigree. The combination of a higher revving engine and the exhaust sounds on upshifts and downshifts with the PDK-S gearbox, regardless of whether they are or are not mimicked by another car, are what give the 991 GT3 the edge over the 997 in the sound department. IMHO.

It was the same in 1968 when the ST came along and again in 73 with the RS.

Porsche have been having problems during the last season with the new cup Riccardo transmission.

It's always the same when you move to something new,

MA176 engine is now ready to go racing. debut in 40 days time.

I have had 993RS, 996.1 GT3 and can say without doubt the 991 GT3 sounds better inside the car than those two models but cannot comment on the other models. I have SW installed and my buddies on the track say it sounds epic between 8-9000 when I pass them. My 993 has a happy cam LWFC motec and custom cat less exhaust. It is also epic but as I don't pass those guys so often on track they never tell me how good the exhaust is lol!

I'm going to say 991, 997, 996. The 996 needs some exhaust love. Anyone know of a decent aftermarket 996 solution or is it time for custom work?

Cup exhaust with side mufflers delete sounds amazing hooked up to the 3.6 Mezger. Go for it.
