Default R888 for GT3?

Anyone tried the R888 with the GT3 on track? I know two good drivers who've tried them, and they like them better than the Cup 2. Noisy on the road, but they cost less than Cup 2, so they would bring down running cost if they last at least as long as the Cup 2.

I did not know they came in the correct sizes for GT3 - I could swear I looked. Where can you get them?

I believe those guys are using 19". I'll check the sizes and post them here.

265/35/19 and 325/30/19 basically keeps stock rake, slightly smaller overall diameter than OEM. Would give you that RSR look!! I think when using black rims, it hides the visual differences. Besides...trackcar

Most of the 997 GT3 guys did not like them. I am sure they will chime in. I did not care for them either as they are too heavy and very noisy if you street drive your car.

I've heard that friends don't let friends drive on R888.

My understanding is that they heat cycle out very quickly and way before the tread is gone

x1000 I've heard the same thing from dozens of people. I'd pass.

I didn't love the R888 on my 997 C2S, especially as the cycles accumulated, and preferred the NT01, but the grip of the R888 in first half of the cycles was pretty good, and I always found them progressive at the limit. With the Cup 2 costing a $hitload and not lasting long, and two good drivers preferring the R888 on the 991 GT3, I think I'm open to giving them another try unless a bunch of people chime in here and say they've tried them on the 991 GT3 and didn't like them. But I certainly wouldn't use the R888 for a car driven mainly on the road, because of both the noise and not trusting them in rain as the tread starts to wear.

It's a shame there isn't an NT-01 in the correct front tire size. I try not to use the word "best" to describe anything, but the NT-01 is the best track tire on planet Earth when you consider cost, unlimited heat cycles, consistency, decent road noise, and adequate grip.

Nitto is missing out big time for not offering the front size - they could have monopoly on GT3 track day tires once owners got a taste. It took them a while to offer a rear 19" tire size that works for the 997 GT3...

FWIW, I have never heard anyone say anything good about the R888, but I have no experience in regards to the 991 GT3.

Confirmed, I have them on a 7.1 GT3 and the are loud, like four bad wheel bearings loud.

I've run them for years on my turbo Miata track car (albeit small 225/45-15) and ran them on my Gallardo on track. I'd say I am a fan for the price point

I ran R888's on my 997.1 RS once; I think their grip is less than the latest Michelins and Pirelli's. I felt they were heavier as well; the grip was okay; not great. They did have a nice predictable break in grip.. easy to drive beyond limit. They were what you expect for the price. They didn't last too long either. Once I tried Hoosiers; it was game over; I love Hoosiers. They are the best 997.1/2 tire for track. Too bad they don't fit on 991's. I use the Trofeo R's now; they are close to the hoosier in grip; but are much more expensive. I wish hoosier would man up and make newer sizes.

I have tried the R888 on another and they are a noisy set of tires. Something you would have on a GTR or a Muscle car and not on a GT3. For that price you get what you pay for. Would still stick to the Cup 2's or Tropheo's if that is an option for you
