Yeah, I got the whole ticket for free (just paid with Miles from United). You can't use miles for tires (or I'd do that instead)

7.35 BTG in your RS is smokin'! The BMW racing looks really fun!

The day after the RCN race it was touristdriving on the Nordschleife until 15.00.
They closed early because it was the yearly Motorbike Start Weekend.

The whole Eifel is full with MC's and it is both fun and a bit annoying.

The day on the track was really good - few motorcycles and not that much cars.
Found this nice 997 GT3 a bit lost on the track so I pulled over infront of him and tried to show him the line.
When we was at the carousel we had to leave the line to let som cars by.
I spoke to the rather thankful german driver afterwards, it was he and his wife in the car and it was his 3rd lap on Nürburgring. I asked him if he would do more laps - He told me that this was enough for one day. Nice bloke.

To get an idea of what a lot of motorbikes are:

A fast and slow lap, due to yellow flags with friend in car.
We've done a couple of laps and trying to figure out if it is better to drive the car in soft or hard suspension.
The only conclusion we came to at this lap was that the car jumps better in hard setting .

If you know the language you will hear to very intelligent mens conversation.

The white BMW that let us by and drives behind is a very beautifully built car.
The owner told me that it was BMW M3CSL from the beginning and that the target was a car as light as possible. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of the car. I hope to meet the owner again.

One week to the next RCN race, 22 of April.

This time I will share a M3 E46 in class F3 with a good friend.

It's got a SMG gearbox - never driven one so it is going to be interesting.

Best of luck Kobalt , is RCN also a 4 hours race as VLN?

It runs over 15 laps so I guess it takes about 2.5h for the fast cars.

The last RCN of the year is a 3h RCN in the format of VLN: That is: rolling start and full pace on all laps.

If you want to compete on Nordschleife there is a a couple of options (as far as I know):

GLP
RCN
VLN
Qualification Race N24
Nürburgring 24H
Classic

GLP
It is a regularity competition where you are not allowed to drive too fast and you are allowed to stop on Döttinge Höhe striaght (GLP is a really weird to watch as a spectator).
As far as I know you can compete in GLP if do not have racing license and a car that is german registered.
http://www.rcn-glp.de

RCN
A mix of GLP and VLN: You need a national A license, 2 of the 15 laps are regularity laps where you must match your time from the first lap. 9 laps are pure sprint laps.
You need to do three RCN races and place yourself amongst the 75% best of your class in each race to give you the Nordschleife Permit (which you need to do VLN or N24).
I've only done one race but if you know Nordschleife it is a very good way to begin racing. Not as competitive as VLN.
http://www.r-c-n.com

VLN
4 hour race (one is 6h). Full sprint race. Mix of cars. You need the DNP-B license (DMSB Nordchleife Permit) to do VLN.
Hard competition.
You need to finish amongst the first 75% in your class in two VLN races to be able to do the 24h race.

Qualification Race N24
I believe that you can run the qualification race for N24 but not run the N24 itself.

N24
Nürburgring 24H race. One of the big happenings of the race year. 200.000+ spectators in the woods.
Hard racing over 24H. You need the DNP-A license for the 24H.

Classic
Dont know so much about the details of classic racing. Sorry.

Reading this thread is a nice break. I understand why so much focus is on buying/values at the moment, but this is what this car passion is all about. Driving. Pushing yourself. Finding limits. Well done, Kobalt.

Being prepared is one of the best ways to improve your driving - some say.

This is a vital instrument when doing RCN: Your Lap-list (taped on the dash). Without this you are lost.
After two laps you no longer have any idea of how many laps you've done.

BTW: This race, RCN2, we drive the Nürburgring 24H track layout so the GP track is included in the race.

This weekend it is also Qualification for N24: Which is a lot of free practice and a final 6H race on Sunday.
So there will be a lot of nice cars in the paddock

RCN is great, in 2011 I drove several races with a BMW Z4 as well as VLN.
In 2012 I managed to take the V6 class victory, production car victory and overall victory in a BMW M3 CSL. This was the first time a production car got the overall victory. I still remember that race as it was yesterday, I had to drive one full lap in torrential rain on slicks, it was like driving on ice, it took me around 13 mins for one lap. After that we switched to full wets and overtook countless cars. We first did not realize we had won, only when going to the winners ceremony we realized it. As we did three victories in one races we had to go up to the rostrum three times.
In V5 I won another two times, in VLN I have one class victory.
Wishing you loads of fun and success
Best

Great read Kobalt!
Many Times' I ask my selfe what am I doing driving my own streetcars at varios trackdays etc. Racing Is the thing to do.

Years gone past since I last drove VLN In 2005.

Man I never forget beeing on track among ap. 200 other cars racecars on Nurburgring track. I Was In a BMW E46 BMW M motorsport chassi car. Build and developed by a friend. Later on I was able to hook up with Schubert Motorsport and was ok to drive with them, but I feel It was getting to expenceive so I did not enter in the end. But this thread Inspire me to go at It again sometime👍🏻
