Default For the first time today, I noticed a high pitch sound in the upper revs.

Hard to describe, but happening under load above 7000RPM. Car is coming up on 3000 miles, never heard it until today. Almost like a high pitch buzz or whine. Somewhat artificial sounding and somewhat loud considering how much noise there already is when in the upper revs.

Has anyone noticed any strange sounds from say 7-9K RPM only? Car otherwise drives normally.

I have always heard a high pitched whine in the high revs. It's normal. 7-9K sounds different in a Gt3 vs a 458.

What would concern me is a sound that you haven't heard before at the same rpm. It's difficult to ask others being we would all have a different hearing of noise perspective. To me the high pitch at that rpm range is somewhat normal. As I said, this is a tough one to get opinions on. Keep us posted if the noise changes back to what you felt was previously normal.

What oil?

At 3,000 miles, if still factory fill, it's significantly broken down and has lost a lot of its high temp high shear viscosity.

Interesting comment on the factory filled oil. I'm about to do my first oil change then park it for the upcoming winter in the next month or so and I'm at 4200 kms (approx. 2600 miles). Why do say these synthetic oils are good for many more miles than 3000 before a change or are you suggesting break down at 3000 on the factory fill only?

I have done 12 track days on mine. 10,500 kms so far. Have never changed oil or any fluid or done any kind of service on it in 10 months of ownership. But then I barely also wash my car once a month.

Mobil One 0W40 the factory fill has classic high shear breakdown. Search my UOAs in the 991 Forum and see. I suggest you switch over to Mobil 5W50. Porsche A40 approved. Buy on Amazon or some NAPA stores readily have it. Stock up when on sale. About $9. $6 on sale.

Got the factory oil out at 1500 miles. I have Total 5-40 in it now.
