rolex have made most customers buy multiple units, not just one 'forever'.
just like porsche, but even moreso.
in china, if you don't own 3 + rolex, you are nothing.
not many people can do that with pp, ap, vc, als..

not everyone drives fast
not everyone tracks
i think it's all good if one worked *** off and bought a car he's entitled to do what he wants with it. concourse, park in living room, make love to it, drive it. all good....
and these GT cars are getting $$$ so i can see some would like to preserve the car a bit more. not using it as an accord.

unfortunately, when my time came to drive, a storm cell came through and Ford stopped allowing test drives. I did get a few laps of the short course in an R driven by one of their pros. Hard to tell much about the car. I loved the feel of the Recaros. The engine sound was worth the price of admission. He did some test threshold braking and those brakes are stout. The reps wouldn't say much about delivery time, number of units, etc. They did say there will be a LOT of new Ford performance products brought to market from now to 2010. That's about all I can report. Dang Sebring weather. :-(

Sorry just one more post about watches. Rolex spent the most amount of marketing money of all watches in the globe and also create the most amount of watches annually (compared to the rest of swiss watches, that is. Casio may produce more) Rolex is around a million watches a year. For swiss watch manufacturers, number of watches created per year is general perceived and argued by hardcore watch enthusiast as inversely proportional to the watches quality because amount of handcrafting required to make a fine piece of art is very time consuming. Therefore, Rolex is generally considered an entry level luxury watches by enthusiasts and yet it is a most recognized one like coca cola, not necessarily because of its quality but rather its marketing money spent.
There are a lot of people who "suddenly" got rich because of rising of capitalism and opportunities in China. Rolex is the first watch they likely buy. How much do they know about the movement or complications of the watch is a debate to have.

OP:
Wow...the generalizations of what kind of people buy Ferrari's is stunning. You are way off base. I have even met some douchey Porsche owners....imagine that. All types of personalities buy Porsche's and or Ferrari's. I would imagine the owner pool for Ferrari is considerably smaller than Porsche due to the usual higher cost of entry. Are you voting for Bernie Sanders by chance ?

This is a venting post---not meant to flame or blast private parties from maintiing valueable resale values. That being said,
Porsche is trying its best to become Ferrari. It is limting vehicle production to effectively limit the ability of people to own their vehicles. I do not want Porsche to become Ferrari---I think the typical Porsche owner is intelligent, a bit OCD, and a person you would enjoy going on a road trip with----Ferarri owners are typically obsessed with having a car in their garage nobody can afford or own---Porsche owners are driving their cars while Ferrari owners are looking at the resale of their garage queens----
Hey Porsche make some GT3's and GT3 RS's --only the private partiies benefit from this artificial market restriction---Penalize the dealers that charge 25k, 50K, 100K for added mark-up---These dealership practices attract the wronng type of owners and ultimately ruin the image and reputation of the typical 911 owner.
Yes I know a couple Ferrari owners that happen to be nice but they are not driving their cars---Cars are meant to be driven---a PORSCHE is meant to be driven !!!

Thats what happens when you don't limit supply - their cars take a value beating unless limited (M5 limited) etc.

I have an Omega Planet Ocean Chrono and a Rolex Daytona. I am more impressed by the Omega movement, build quality and feel over my Daytona..besides, Rolex watches are too small for my taste these days.....they should build a 45mm version.

They limit the supply to marketing
build the exclusivity and inflating demand
in other words to keep selling
no exclusivity no customers

good point
We should indeed distinguish P Motorsport streetable buyers
from regular P buyers
at least an early warning if not the break event point (991 RS) cause before customers
could buy and maintain Porsche rather than a queen garage like Ferrari for half the price double usability double reliability and just for a self smiling thinking that the beloved 911 is was
even better or very close in some performance parameters for half the price
in few words a clever buyer
Question do i feel still clever spending 250k for a Porsche 911
when now the Porsche RS Ferrari 488 (or McLaren 650S) price ratio is almost 1 1?
and the two latters are way much better from performances standpoint?
not to mention sisters Audi and Lambo
from first in class i feel lost in the fog and for sure there s somebody at P VW not really loving the brand

Ferrari never had to offer up a special VIP program to sell their top of the line cars.

Yes, and it's in part because Ferrari hasn't diluted its brand like Porsche has (related to my post #2 in this thread). I'm a Porsche guy, I care very little for Ferraris...but it's true. Please, no responses telling me how the Cayenne saved the 911. I'm good.
