The GT4 is the sweetheart of the Porsche sports car range right now. WAY more fun on the street than the 991 GT3.
I'll tell you why:
1. The manual transmission makes is more involving. No question about it. It's a very slick transmission, too.
2. The GT4 sounds better 90% of the time. 991 GT3 is only better at WOT (and for some that is still questionable).
3. GT4 shares the same GT DNA, so you have a solid front end, good pedal weight, good shift weight, etc - all those little details that make GT cars special. So the GT4 doesn't give way to the GT3 in this department.
Sure, the GT4 isn't as fast. But who cares? It's fast ENOUGH.
The GT4 put an instant smile on my face. I didn't have to think "hmm…do I like this car?" With the 991 GT3, I was thinking that question during my entire ownership.

I think the 991 GT3 is a fabulous car- it just needs a damn Manual. GT3 traded and GT4 arriving in May. Will miss the 9000 rev and engine but since I do not track I do not know how much I will really miss it. Aside from no Manual hard to complain too much about the GT3. I think the lighter weight, jet-like fighter cockpit, and Manual in the GT4 will get me closer to the perfect driver's car that I seek. But, every one has to find the car that checks their boxes. Some want the best track car that can be DD while others just care about 1/4 mile times. That's why there are many seats for all our asses.

When I take a step back, I have to laugh. We're basically like kids talking about which expensive toys are most fun to play with, often getting very detailed and passionate about it, sometimes even philosophical. But I guess it's a nice diversion - ok, back to work ...

Three Wheelin'
I just traded my 991 GT3 for a 981 Spyder and so now I know why the 3 is so good. The Spyder has a lot of things going for it over the GT3: lighter, sounds better most of the time, open top, mid engine balance and of course, manual gearbox. However, the GT3 has a few things in it's favour too: unbelievable drivetrain, handling just as good despite rear engine, which actually makes it more interesting, better steering feel. Plus you get the 911 history and it's better looking, which is admittedly subjective.
But let me focus on the drivetrain for a minute as it defines this car. It revs to 9,000 rpm and not many cars do that. And none sound as good, not even a Speciale. Ok maybe an LFA. And this is a proper 9k that can be hit every time, not 8.8k in some gears/modes and 8.6 in others. Plus the engine's not particularly torquey for its size so it really rewards you revving it. Running a 991GT3 hard constantly changing gear and staying in the 7-9k range is an experience you can't get anywhere else, not even in an RS. And you wouldn't get it if it were manual either.

This whole forum is just one big diversion. I bet most post here because their significant other is sick of hearing this s***, and you gotta let it out somewhere!

^Yes - I will get the 991.2 GT3 with a Manual. I got the 991 GT3 because always wanted a GT3 for the rawness and scalpel like abilities - it did not disappoint. Now- I did not know what to expect from this transmission other than what I read on this forum. And, it is an incredible transmission and every thing that I read here was spot-on
BUT - It can not replace a third peddle. I love manuals what can I say. Some like blondes some like brunettes although i like both but prefer brunettes.. But - no one will ever convinve that PDK-S is more engaging than a Manual - it is not

I actually read my wife excerpts and occasional precis' from the forum. There were many things that told us both we were going to be together from our first date. One was when we passed a Boxster and she stopped to take a look and commented on wanting one. She actually encouraged me to buy the GT3. Stay tuned for what I am getting her as a 'thank you'. It has a 6MT.

Drove the 991 GT3 couple times and on track as well. I was really disappointed of the lack of TQ down low compared to the 997 GT3. You have to ring it up to 7k to start really feel something and the sound is crazy, but when can you really do that on the street. It is so stable that you feel like your doing 50 when you are actually at 120. Like everyone said you have to drive it 10/10 in order to really feel the car. Here is a article that stated the same feeling as the OP.

And the video version of it:
I think the OP wants is a higher TQ car and more involving car. I personally think any past generation car whether its a 997 GT3 or Scuderia or Mercy SV manual will suit your needs.
