As I said in another thread, PAG didn't really think through the repercussions of the 918 Spyder VIP program when they cooked it up during the days of sloooow 918 sales.

My speculation? It'll backfire when non-Porsche-loyalist 918 Spyder VIP's dump their 991 GT3 RS's on the market because they only bought it because it was offered to them guaranteed, and because they could get it before everyone else. I expect a bunch of 500-1000 mile cars.

I suspect the same will happen with the Cayman GT4. (Though, I believe less 918 VIP's raised their hand for the GT4 than the GT3 RS, probably because it is even further below what they usually collect.)

They pumped the 918 very hard. I went to two different events. I am not sure why I care how many they make. With some patience you can probably get an allocation. I still don't think that other than this forum where we drink the cool aide and practice hysteria, the demand for 200k bright orange cars with big spoilers is all that large.

I bought my 2011 RS of the showroom floor after it had been there several weeks.

At the end of the day it's just a car. If I didn't already have one, I would buy a 458 instead.

Same. Went to three events that featured the car, including one with some track time.

Your dealer can't guarantee you one though as there is no visibility on allocations - needs to be more than 918 cars.

I had to buy a 4.0 on the Bock market at msrp even though it had 3000 miles on it. And.... This was during the depression of 2008-2011.
Yep - will be a bloodbath this time around. I guess they'd have to make at least 1,500 to get past the 918 program?

Yeah. Ugh. If they make 500 worldwide (like the 997.2 GT2 RS), it'll be a disaster. That means not all US 918 VIP's can get one (prior to any secondary market sales, there were 297 918's sold here, but taking the GT2 RS as an example, only ~150 came to the US).

The car is available in 3 other colors in addition to orange. The gigantic spoiler did not discourage buyers of previous GT3s.

Yeah purple, white and silver. I have one on order. Orange according to the poll is the most popular color. Also that line was tongue in cheek. Everyone on this forum knows there are 4 colors.

Yes, but that's still pennies on the dollar in the big picture. I'm with you, but the economics of numbers will drive the profits.

I think it was day six after purchasing my 2013 C2S that I went back to the dealership and put a deposit down on a GT3 RS. I've read everything, every day since "991 GT3 RS" hit. I was lucky that my dealership, even though it went through an ownership change since said deposit, honored my MSRP (now Bellevue (WA) Porsche). For the records they received three allocations and only one 918 guy made good, meaning two left for "the rest of us". I should emphasize that there are many greater than I around here, including many 997.x GT3 owners (for the last while you can find at least one of all three of the Holy Trinity on site--959, CGT, and 918) and that they made good on an over two year-old deposit under previous ownership is the greatest story of RS V200 I've heard yet. I feel very lucky.

Anyhow, I also feel I have a good pulse going on the RS and these are the things that are ringing most significant to me currently:

My 3/18 V200 confirmation has a finish of 10/30 (how could I not go LO?) and a delivery in San Diego scheduled for 1/1/16. This is of course if I do not get approved for my requested PTS. I have been told (and have only seen confirmation of this from others here and nothing to the contrary yet) that my PTS, if approved, would mean a build date in 3/16 or 4/16 instead of 10/15.

I have seen a "projected" build document here (somewhere--whish it was easier to find (hint)) that showed the different market build dates. Those, and I only sort of remember the NA dates, seem to accurately coincide with what all the dealers (see above) have been saying, which is production through 12/15.

I haven't seen anyone post a build date into 2016 (again, could be missing a lot), but I'd say let's start watching this if nothing else date wise. The most intriguing wild card as of late is the post regarding the delay in RS production. Doesn't seem to be much about this, and nothing from the dealer yet, but could make some sense if the March/April NA PTS build dates are accurate, and there won't be anymore allocations. Otherwise, without the delay, it would seem obvious that there is production time between 12/15 and 3/16 to be allocated. The delay thing is made more interesting to me because I'm pretty sure I remember AP talking about the millions they had to spend at the last minute to complete the implementation of the 21" wheels due to them getting "stuck" on the production line. I also think this is a good indicator of at least where the 960 will be going, as they need more than RS ROI here.

Adding, of course, to all of this is the whole NA vs turbo situation. Especially with the recent confirmation of the 991 GT2, it seems the argument for this being the last 911 GT NA car could be legit (aside from recent executive quotes to the "contrary").

Personally I would put my money on one more NA GT3, but only one more at the most. I would never call it a bad bet against however. There is obviously a lot of room in the new aero, and I can't help but think that the only way they will be able to match, must less beat the 488, etc. is with a GT2 with all of that new aero...

I'm in very interested in what the "limited edition" "homologation special" will turn out to be... is that a separate 918 offering?

Outside of the spoiler( aptly named) , and poor, limited color choice, the RS is the most attractive 911 in recent time.

Indeed. Limited by limited production capacity, not limited by virtue of being a numbered car (like the 997.2 GT2 RS, 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0, 991 50th Anniversary Edition, Panamera Exclusive Series ?!).

The loss is intrinsic in that over time, with enough frustration, a lot of their loyalists will depart. These loyalists drive a lot of traffic towards Porsche via referrals, and other forms of "free" advertising and promotion.
