Argh!! Please Help Me Decide (Yellow GT3)
Gents & Ladies, I can use your help in deciding on a 991 GT3 or not.
Here's the back story...
- Have 2011 GT3 black
- Track the car 4-5 times/year
- Car has roll bar and bucket seats w/harnesses
- Ceramics that I need to convert to steel before first event this year; cost around $4000
- Hub refurb will be needed within 2 years; supposedly at 7k track miles; cost around $12000
- Beautiful car
- Can't afford two GT3s
So, dealer calls me the other day to say they have a brand new 991 GT3 coming in next Fri. Ordered by customer that backed out of deal. Am I interested. Knowing not many 991 GT3s out there and no new ones until gen 2, I figured why not explore...before I spend $4000 on new rotors.
The config is below, but that's not what I really need help on (picture me lying on the couch while you're sitting in a chair analyzing this basket case). The help I need is....
- Lot's of equity in 2011 GT3; good trade in and financials for payments and what residual will be good (low) on 991 GT3
- Have issue that Porsche hasn't figured out the crotch harness buckle; as I understand, no bar under seat to secure with OEM seats. So, no harness, and really no sense, now, to spend money on roll bar. Dilemma hear, track events will now be 3-point stock belt
- Yellow. Yes, I said yellow. That's the color. If I ordered I would get black, most likely.
Decisions Points:
- Will I be satisfied with 991 GT3 coming out of 997.2 GT3 w/o track set up?
- Having PDK will make it a better street car; commuting. I do drive the car.
- Has equity peaked in 997.2?
- CPO on 997.2 ends 2016 and I have that looming hub refurb coming
- Yellow....looks pretty in pics, and for the record I did own a E46 M3 in Phoenix Yellow.
Well, enough jabbering, you get the point. Dealer is wanting to close deal, and I just need to get through the emotional piece. Oh, and did I say, that whether or not I purchase this 991 GT3 I will be purchasing a 991.2 GT3 to my configuration within a few years.
Thank you for your feedback. Our session is over? How much I owe you?

Well it's a clean sweep so far....I say, as others have said, buy it and don't think much more about it or it may be gone. No SA will wait if another customer comes in with a cheque at this point. Oh, and what AC posted, yellow is the fastest, same colour as mine. We GT3 guys here are very impatient so we expect pics later today of the car.

Nope. Doesn't really do what you want it to which is really why you are on the fence. Never buy a color you have serious doubts about Separate your real use for the new car vesus the old and avoid new car fever as much as possible.

This is sort of difficult. The car has not arrived yet. It would had been an easy choice to see the new car. I am sure you would like it. Ask them if you could give a refundable deposit until you see the car.

Go for the 991 gt3. Big step up from 997 gt3 (what I gathered from a long test drive, but did not own one). Yellow is a great color in this car. The photo below is a 2014 that I test drove (1k mi and were asking $8k over msrp) and after which, decided I must get one!

Take the car. I couldn't depart from my 997.1. They are completely different animals...both fun to drive, but you'll love the 991, no matter the color. Trust me...

Yellow 1GT3 with the lift and buckets? Can't think of a single reason why you shouldn't ****** it. You know, sometimes you blink on these cars and they are gone to another buyer. We've seen it happen a number of times here on RL alone. Just sayin'.
