Default GT3 with Michelin Super Sports

did anyone here fit michelin super sports instead of cups to the GT3? if so, what are the thoughts on grip (dry and wet), general road handling and ride comfort? any strange behavior close to the limit? funny PSM cut ins or other weird issues? cheers peter

I had them ordered for rainy seattle. But because the rears were backordered until end of February I decided to cancel order from Tire Rack and wait until I needed to replace PSC2 that car came on. Have 1000 miles on the car now. Will do car control clinic through Porsche club end of February and perhaps 4 track days this season.
I still have winter sottozeros on my 07 GT3 but we haven't had a super cold winter as most of the country has. I will change out the sottozeros for existing Yokohama neoadvan 08R for track season on the 07 in March.
Cantrell's will do the tire change out for cheaper than the local dealers. My first centerlock car. For me that works out fine.

Anything less hardcore than cup2 will be more forgiving in everyway.
I am finding pzero more suitable for track and road right now. I will go for super sports after pzero since it will be cheaper.
More slip angle and soft sidewall makes driver communicate better with gt3.

How are people changing their tire pressures between each manufacturer's brand and model?

I went to PSS on my 997.2 GT3 since most of my driving was obviously not on the track. Great all around tire which still allowed for plenty of fin on the track.

I considering MPSC2 up front and MPSS in back. More traction up front, more durability down back since the rears will always wear more than the fronts. I have yet to find the cars limit in the canyons at high speed and don't need this much tire for daily drive so, MPSS in back or all around is an option.

I don't know, after spending this much on the car, I'm not sure I want to cheap out on the most important part keeping the car planted and possibly changing the ride characteristic. I might try something different, just to see. Then again, I have tire and wheel insurance. Guess I should just keep it OEM. *sigh*

Dan (was planning on cheaping, then not, then thought of a compromise, then remembered insurance)

I wouldn't mix the mpss with mpsc 2. From what I've read on this forum, the fronts wear just as fast as the rears anyway.

I don't think that's possible. The rears will wear faster. But, I changed my post, I forgot I paid for wheel and tire insurance so, I'll be staying OEM.

I went with MPSS on my .2 GT3 and have a set ordered for the 991. The rears are supposed to in stock at the Tire Rack on 2/12.

Dan,

All 991 cars wear the front tires faster than the rears when tracked heavily. I had that happen in all 3 991 variants and others have noted that as well. On the street, it may very well be different so it depends on where you drive.

Sam (apologizing for giving unsolicited opinion and going OT).

Don't mix tires. Bad idea. Lots of grip up front and low grip in the rear = oversteer
