Just a DE. Not even close to racing. If this spooked you, you would **** your pants in a race environment.

OK - you guys suggesting that someone headed toward an RS consider a Cup - where is the best place to look for Cups for sale?

In three years I have bought a 997 GTS and a 991 GT3 and am # 2 in a list for a 991 RS, and now I'm considering a Cup. Damn, this 911 habit has a slippery slope....

Scroll down to Cup Car forum here on RL. Lots of cars FS. Also touch base with reputable race shops as they often know about cars about to hit the market. Do your diligence when buying one as buying the "wrong" car can be quite expensive. If I had the $$$, I would snag Nizers car---great guy who, along with its previous owners, spared no expense on the car. Good Luck!

FWIW, those in the know claim the RS will be marginally faster than the 991GT3 and only in the hands of an expert driver. This is coming from someone VERY familiar with the 991GT3RS.

BTW, I thought all three drivers in the video were excellent.

If we say 1:55 on stock mpsc2 tires is doable, then perhaps it could match a 1:51 cup car time on equivalent tires? Amazing when you consider it is a street car!!
Joe where you driving in Auto mode or Shifting? and traction on or off ?

I think if E46 M3 can produce 1:57 on slicks you should be more than capable to get to 1:55 on stock car.

I am going on the 16th and 23th - both 3 miles tracks. Will be lucky if I get under 2m.

Great driving 24C.

Out of curiosity what is the weight of your Cup car?

Sad to know that Sean has passed on. He must have shifted a few hundred times during the two laps.

I too am curious, what does a 997.1 or 997.2 cup weigh? For that matter, what does the 991 GT America weigh?

I've looked around a bit in the 997 GT3/RS forums for weight reduction. Seems most keep them with street interior and when they are ready for weight reduction the car goes dedicated track with stripped interior.

Halltech and Katech, two of the Corvetteforum vendor sponsors, had a competition a couple of years back. Each started with a C6Z06 and they developed all sorts of lightweight components with the goal of keeping the interior appearance stock. Components included carbonfiber body parts, extensive use of titanium, and carbon ceramic brakes.

I'm not a fan of the carbon ceramics. Been there, done that. However, I'd like to see some ideas on dropping 100 - 200 lbs from my 991 GT3.

Looks like the sharkwerks pipe drops a few pounds, the cup exhaust drops more, but I probably can't deal with the full cup exhaust around town

Full auto. All nannies on for now.

I think 1:55 is possible in MY hands. It's definitely capable of less than 1:55 with a better driver. I'm always humbled by the lap times really good drivers get with s2000s and e46 m3s.

Hey Joe, great driving between you and your co-owner! I too have been humbled by better drivers- My tech and driver coach drives the Stammer M3 at the 25 Hour race at Thill where they have finished third a couple of times, so he has thousands of laps there. He did a reference lap with me in the car and I spent a weekend trying to get close- So frustrating! Almost two seconds was lost between turns 1 and 4 - after pushing myself all weekend, still two seconds between 1 and 4!!! Just for reference IIRC his entry speed into one was about 98 mph in my .2 and that speed difference (about 8 mph) carried all the way through the 1 - 4 complex (well and he was closer on the limit in 2 also but by a much smaller speed difference). It is sooo hard to get that feel of the limit at those speeds. Everywhere else our traces were identical and in some spots I was slightly faster, but only by a .1 sec or so for the whole rest of the lap. I would say you guys are doing better than me through 1, but if you want to hit that 1:55 time that is where the speed is. Maybe a little bit through 8, but nothing like what time is lost in 1 - 4.

Also, you guys probably had optimal conditions for fast laps- you could easily be down 1.5 seconds later in the summer with 90 degree plus temps so don't get too frustrated and pick your moments to break the time.

So cool watching the video, getting me pumped up for the upcoming racing season! On another note, how did you remove the cables holding down the cushion on the passenger seat?
