Default ENGINE CONTROL FAULT Continued......

Well, I brought the car in on Monday to do a diagnostic and find the root cause for the warning. The car showed Mis-fires in the 1 and 4 cylinders and the cause is "believed" to be bad gas or as they put it impure gas which they say PAG issued a heads-up to this issue and the recommended fix is a gas additive 44K to be poured into the tank when the level reaches 1/4 full.
I'm supposed to do this every other fill up until the mis-fire goes away. They treated the car and the warning was cleared. When I picked it up at the dealer the next day upon startup the car misfired and the warning lit up. It did go out after I put gas in it. The next morning, startup was accompanied with some serious misfires and then the idling calmed down and all was fine except the warning popped up again. The dealer claims I need to continue this treatment a few times until the misfire stops. I've got 2,700 mi. It's an 0'15 and I'm not happy because like most of you If things are not right with the car, things are not right with most everything else.

Where in the country do you live?
What brand of gas do you use?

Not sure about this....sounds a bit like blowing off problem. It is certainly feasible that you got some bad gas, but sounds like there could be something else at play here.

Can you take it to another dealer for a second opinion?

Your issue sounds like a coil pack or spark problem. There has been one or two other examples of this I have come across, one in the UK. The code reading covers much sin including bad fuel. Run through the tank and if its still happening with fresh fuel then I think they need to consider the iginition system...

Did not some one have a similar issue and they had to have the spark plugs changed??

I wonder if they looked at the DME data to see the conditions in which the misfires occur. For example : RPM,Coolant temperature etc.
I'm obviously guessing without checking the car,but personally,I'm not buying the bad gas argument,at least not so frequent.

Bad gas is cute. Why only cyl 1&4? Doesn't the bad gas enter cylinders 2,3,5, and 6?

Correct. Im pretty certain its a plug/coil pack issue. Apparently there is a new designed anode and due to the 9000 rpm they are very sensitive. Infact they need replacing (the "plug") at very short intervals IIRC from the service manual. I know two cars one in USA and one in UK that has had to have replaced early. The UK car had many hard miles.

+1

We have seen one other member that had a plug/coil pack problem with low miles.

This is why I love this forum...real owners with real answers.

Sounds like easy fix and worth having dealer check out plugs/coil pack (as 'bad gas' sounds like 'we are not sure').

Bad gas my ... - No way. Even if you use a lower than 93 octane it will adjust.- But - I would not put 87 in my car. We are fortunate here in Chicago that 93 every where

+1.

Sounds like your dealer has instituted Obamacare for it's service department. I'm glad the dealer servicing my car takes a much more proactive approach to problem solving.
