Not to sound like an a$$, but most magazine drivers have trouble with the viper. Stock Vipers are running in the 10s with veteran drivers. It is also beating the z06. The PDK will have an advantage on the jump, but that will be short lived. I have been driving vipers(including owning a competition coupe-viper's version of a cup car) for quite some time and know it's faster than my 991 GT3. They are just different cars.
but i think youre underestimating the advantage of the pdk transmission.
i dont care how fast you can shift in the viper. theres still a lot of time spent shifting whereas the shift time of the gt3 can essentially be neglected. its basically one continuous gear for acceleration.
and that is evident in the video.
the way the gt3 fell back at the end certainly has to do with the gt3 letting off somewhat. they were neck and neck, then suddenly the gt3 is 30-40 feet behind...
and to me it looked like you could hear the vipers engine kick down slightly before the gt3 jumped ahead. so i think it was the viper that actually got the jump. maybe.
but yes, eventually at a point/speed after which i stop caring, the viper would pull ahead, and walk away from the gt3.

I think a GT3 owner who's focusing on 0-60 times or quarter mile times and things like trap speed bought the wrong car.

And FWIW, I watched a Viper ACR and 997.2 GT3 Cup car turning very similar times back to back at MSR Cresson a few years back. Both on slicks and both driven by the same pro driver. Same old story: less weight vs more HP.

I did not buy my 991 GT3 to drag race vipers...

I agree less weight is always better. A better comparison would be an ACR-X vs a Cup Car, since the cup car is not street legal, ACR-X is also not street legal. My ACR-X was several secs faster than my ACR on all tracks.

Might have been an X for all I know. I was there for a Porsche coaching event and wasn't paying much attention other than to note the similar lap times (and the pro's ability to hop in the viper and beat the local hot-shoe owner's best time on the pro's third lap).

I have been on a road course many times in a 991GT3 versus a new Viper TA. On the straight the Viper does not pull on the GT3 at all and by the end of the straight the Porsche will carry more speed because it stops better.

The viper on video is not even stock. It's put 40 more ftq with intake, exhaust and tune. Stock viper is faster than GT3, but not by much.
