A friend of mine bought a new Z06 in 2005.
Suffered head damage on the street as a daily driver.
Both heads were replaced under warrranty of course.... but it was supposedly a common issue.

Wrong. Driving a new car on the highway at a constant rpm is no good.

"Note: the replacement-part cost for an Audi/Lamborghini V10 is about $25,000"
i say BS.
Funny, I picked up my new 05 6GT3 in Boston and drove it to FL. It seemed to survive the experience for the 25k miles I had it.

I would not want any one else going thru what we all did with the 991 GT3. I am glad it is over but do not wish it on any one else - not suggesting any one here is.

I had the first gen shelby 07 or 08 I think and blew that motor just farting around in town. Put a hole right thru the piston. Took ford 2 months to replace engine. Was a nightmare and my last performance car from them.

I think Porsche going as far as it did (the no-drive directive and replacing all engines) probably had more to do with the two failures causing the cars to burn down than the engine failures itself. If it was just engine failures they would probably just replace those failed engines under warranty and go on.

Actually, they blew 2 engines during testing. Some kind of testing that must've been... (normal tracking)

Porsche caught there mistake pretty quick and took care of it. I believe only 2 failures with the GT3 engine. I know some think the turn around fix took way too long however these are highly involved speciality engines so I feel Porsche did an outstanding job.
