Picked up my GT3 today! First Impressions (over 700 miles in 1 day)
Just a little background info: I live in Orlando, FL and I bought a car from Atlanta, GA. So my opinion on this car may seem somewhat valid, I'd like to point out that I have owned a 997.2 GT3, a LP550-2 Gallardo with a manual, a few vette's, many M3's (like 10 lol), a track car 911 and a bmw m3 specifically for drifting. I have also driven (not owned) many high end sports cars over the years and have done quite a bit of track days including 50+ laps on the ring.
So! Long story short, I ordered a GT3 (White 136k car) in Jan 2013, expected delivery was 11/21/14. I was starting to get impulsive last week after seeing all the videos of people with their cars fixed on the track ect so I start searching for the first car available. I happened to get a phone call last week saying a white 2014 is available (No miles, never titled) from a customer backing out because he also had a 918 on order and only wanted one of them, so I tell the salesman I want the car. I was then told later in the week he is having second thoughts so I move on. That same day I saw the topic in the 991 GT3 forum titled two gt3's available, put a deposit down on the yellow car. I would have had this car by 8/17 and at this point I'm fixed on getting this car in particular and convince myself yellow is a great idea.
So Saturday comes along and I get a phone call from the salesman with the white car saying the guy 100% backed out and it will be available next week as soon as it comes back from getting the engine replaced. I put a deposit down on this car after I get the confirmation that I will be refunded my deposit from the yellow car. This white car is optioned well (145k car + clear bra & wheel/tire = 150k total excluding tax). Today I have everything figured out and the car is back and ready to go. I worked a little bit this morning and then I booked a flight and fly to Atlanta to pick up my car.
The salesman takes me in the shop in the back and shows me the car immediately upon my arrival. I'm not sure how many of you have actually seen one of these in person, but the pictures do NO justice. It's absolutely stunning!!! It's mean, its wide, and it looks really great in white. Anyways, I sign what I need to sign and I leave.
Now the fun stuff, and yes it was fun even though the car isn't broken in and I didn't rev it up high. After leaving the dealership, and drinking a very large redbull, I drive north of Atlanta to the mountains and take the car for a spin around blood mountain and then drive home to Orlando.
Now here are my thoughts on the car so far:
- If I could explain this car in one sentence it would be "If an e92 M3 with a DCT and a 997.2 GT3 had a baby it would be a lot like a 991 GT3". This car has the raw Gt3 feeling but is easy to drive like an m3.
- Pulling back both pedals does release the clutch, I halfway tried it to see if it actually works. I cannot wait until the car is broken in!!
- Electronic steering is great. Doesn't steer like an old Gt3. You'd almost forget you were in a Porsche if there wasn't a steering wheel in front of your face that had a big crest on it.
- The sound package plus is awesome. Can crank it as loud as it will go and it's still crisp.
- It sounds awesome. I cheated ONCE and revved second and third out to 9k and 8k. The result was an ear-gasm.
- The PDK is great and I didn't find myself missing the manual tranny that much. This may change in the future but I really love the new PDK. The shift speed is unreal and faster than a 458 or mp4.
- It's probably the fastest stock N/A car I've driven next to a 458 or a z06
- It's a very easy car to drive fast around corners. There is a lot less under steer before it starts to over steer and when it does over steer its forgiving and easy to maintain and realign the car, unlike the old GT3 which would push push push, drift, hope you hold it and almost die.
- It's not as rewarding as a 997 gt3 when you drive it. I remember getting out of my 997 and thinking I was a badass because I drove it fast and didn't kill myself. It's just more raw than the 991.
- It is a good highway car. I drove for over 6 hrs and didn't get too uncomfortable and it maintains a nice cruising speed (90-100mph) very comfortably.
All in all I love this car and it was everything I had hoped for plus some and everyone that has one on order would be stupid to back out. I don't think I've every owned a car that I enjoyed more all around. There isn't a better car out in this price range that tops it. I would prefer it to an mp4 or a 458 any day of the week. I'm definitely leaving things out because I am exhausted (4am here) so please feel free to ask me questions about the car and I'd be happy to answer.
Here are some pics! 1 and 2 are at the dealership obviously and the 3rd was taken an hour ago at home in my garage.

Very nice! I thought with clear tail lights the side markers would be clear also? My 991S has clear tails and sides when I purchased. I ordered white also with clear tails. Keep us updated, and post some interior shots now were all jealous(: interesting break in questions ......my buddy took delivery of an RS on the track back in 2010 and the driver let it rip, and said the car is ready for the track. I guess we will never know the real answers.

When you want a car you want a car. Well done.
So guessing the Yellow one is back on the market if they didn't already have a list. FYI, most of the inquiries I received were for the white one.

Enjoyed your review. I suspect your more rewarding comment as related to the 997GT3 is the difference between PDK and manual. After a few more miles you will forget manual for good.:thumb up:

You're killing! This car was in my back yard and I'm still waiting.
Congrats! Great write-up. I'll bet you had a blast hitting the twisties north of Atlanta. I'm encouraged by the positive comparison between the GT3 and the 12c. I considered this car for a long while but I'm glad I held out for the GT3. Enjoy!
