Has anyone driven in the 'no drive' period?

Marcus. Spot on! My Porsches get their mechanical care along that same said stretch of road LOL!
P.S. Cant help but think your 991 Carrera looks better than my GT3. Just love that color and those wheels, colour contrasts the red claipers and rear lights so well. Would have tempted me away from white but I already have an older one in that colour. Was bloody close tho!

Quite the guess on your location.
Thank's the compliments on my color choice of 991 although it only looks that great for about 5 min.
The GT3 looks WAY better in white. The contrast shows off all the features much better. Not to say a black GT3 doesn't look amazing as well.

I'll largely disagree on the issue of 2014 vs 2015. There are a number of known issues with 997 GT3 RS 3.8s and 4.0s: water lines, cam actuators, freeze plugs, clutch plates, oil pumps... People are still buying those cars, and these are just the issues not already handled with service bulletins, etc. 458s were burning up for years and people are still buying them. If the 991 GT3 gets a bad rap long term depends on how this plays out.
BTW, Macca and I discussed offline, there are a number of things going on here. I don't know if I convinced him, but I'll say again that I'd strongly advise against driving the car until we understand more.

Manual does NOT equal good driver.
997 does NOT equal good driver.
It's a fact.

That is true but only coming manual kept the interest away from a whole bunch of other losers that have big pocket books and would have chosen something more comfortable, luxurious or exotic. Now they come and start wanting cup holders that fit a big gulp, back seats, glass roofs, 20" CL wheels, baby seat anchors, the best audio and integration with their iphone.

You know the thing is it would have been soooo easy for Porsche to give the 991 a manual gearbox as well. Then the only legitimate argument about the new car would be the motor not Mez. OK, the rear wheel steering also.
There's always going to be something. I just wish this stop sale/don't drive your car didn't happen because it's made some weary of the the new motor. Nothing is ever perfect but the 991 GT3 is an amazing piece of machinery. Once this all this blows over everyone will be driving their cars again and that will be a glorious day!!!
Bottom line is that even with the unbelievable profit margin Porsche has achieved the GT3 has massive amounts of R&D in it and that needs to be spread over the the sales run of a particular vehicle. My uncle was at GM for a million years and everything at the end of the day comes down to money. He would tell me when I was a kid about fighting over decals vs. painted stripes. If Porsche produced 10,000 GT3's I'm sure there would be enough profit to spread around into a MT car also even if the MT cars were only 10% of the lot.
Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren Porsche was last to the table with paddles only. It is what it is. I'm sure they were feeling the heat.
Also please don't frown upon options available for any car. That's how they make money. Without it the base Carrera S would be $120 and the GT3 would be $180 and go up from there. There are a lot of guys who purchase the GT3 and never track it. I just ran into a nice fellow in Manhattan Beach a few days ago with a 997.2 GT3 and we struck up a nice conversation. He has never tracked his claims he never will. There's a lot of those guys and there's nothing wrong with that.
They would have given us a MT in the 991 GT3 for sure if they could have. I'm sure it came down to a vote. Sucks, but it is what it is.

Never had a manual 911 ,but must be nice. Adding manual to 991 gt3 has an opportunity cost. I'd rather Porsche spend on improving the current engine/pdk and making it even more awesome. Easy to say, as I get to shift my bmw 1000rr at 14k, but would fight any auto tranny for a bike..

So you do understand manual supporters feelings when they didn't see a manual in the new GT3,correct?
Also,at this point,I should probably thank Porsche for not putting a manual in the new GT3,thus sparing me the headache...

I tested a 997.2 GT3 RS for about 10 minutes Nov 2012. Loved it.. .the 475hp, 991 gt3 buzz started.. After driving the 997.2 I figured the PDK had to be off the charts to offer similar emotional gratification.. .. thus the 'shut up and drive'.. i'm not the best to compare after 10 minutes, but Haven't heard anyone with both say the PDK sucks.. other then the Chris Harris .. "aaaahhh, welll, yes, in some deep xxxx philosophical thought.. I do miss the manual..
-- then there is taste.. I like high revving off the charts, obnoxiously loud screaming engines.. YZ125 2 stroke vs. 250. 1000rr 14k inline 4 ( I have no class lol) vs. Ducati (put me to sleep) twin. The narrower the power band the more intense.. use your ears to shift.!
