Default Thinking of cancelling my order

I still havent driven the car and waiting to get my build slot (if it ever happens now with current problems)

all the frustration and waiting though has got me thinking...
I know its meant to be a good car... but how good
is it a whole F355 better than the 997 ?

I ask but ive been seriously thinking of cancelling my order and picking up a 7.2 and with the rest of the money a F335 - prob gts

I would have the best of both worlds, a gt3 cs for the track(with coilovers mod) and a F335 for cruising around drop top with that lovely noise

Im still not 100% sold on the pdk either, im sure on the track I would like it yes - but not sure if its as involving at lower speeds on the road

On the other hand if I did keep the 991 - I would go for a comfort spec, drive the car most weekends and enjoy the drive to the track more

What would you do in my place?

You could always hold out for the 991RS. (which is what i would do IF buying NEW).
And while you wait, pick up a cheap F355 if you can afford it.

A 997 is a superior car to the F355, but if you really want to get it out of your system, then by all means get a F355.

If was only spending 100k of less, It would be a 997.1RS.

This no news nonsense is frustrating, its even worse when you have the car in front of you and you can't drive it. But in Porsche's defense I'm pretty sure they don't want to take any risks with one of there flagship models, a model that most of the owners care much more about there car than lets say a Turbo owner (Turbo owner's don't crucify me for that assumption).

If I was in your shoes OP I would 120% percent be having the same doubts, but trust me when you drive the car even if it was on fire you wouldn't care. It's probably one of the most amazing car's I've ever driven, so I would tell you to wait for the silver lining mate

If all you have is a refundable deposit down on the car, why not just wait for the news release? It's essentially a free option to obtain the car less the opportunity cost of what you could have earned on the deposit, which is is minimal.

Get the 991 GT3.. I have had quite a few Ferraris since I was 16, 308's 348, 355, 360, 430s (currently have 3), 458, 599, and 2 Daytonas ( wish I still had one). The 355 with Tubi is one of the best sounding Ferraris out there, but it is a maintenance nightmare. You can pick up a nice one for $40k-55k but you might have to put $10k-$20k in it, just make sure you get a PPI done!

I had similar thoughts, but instead looking at a stradale. But having owned (only 1) ferrari, I think the GT3 (I've had the 996 and 997 versions) feel more purpose built, and I while the fcar steering is very precise, I think the GT cars feel more immediate and provide more feedback to the driver.

My 997S made my 360 feel woefully dated, I couldn't imagine a 997 v. 355.

But anyway, I'd hold of a bit longer for more information.

If the root cause of the problem is external to the motor as some have guessed, the thrown rods are a consequence of loss of oil, rather than a thrown rod causing the oil loss. This would make the issue far less serious than the mass hysteria would have you believe.

I understand that Ferraris have gotten A LOT better lately, but I have experience with two mid/late 90s Ferraris (the 550 and 360) and was a little shocked that someone originally paid so much for something of such poor quality. I was happy to jump back into my 996, let alone a 997!

ychaudary, why take a jab at turbo owners? The turbo is the top of the line 911, at 200k I would care a lot. In fact, btwn the two I'd care less about the buck fifty gt3. Sorry, had to.

I'd cancel mine (and did). TT Surgeon, your 2007 was a 120K car not 200K.

I believe yc was referring to 991 cars, the 991tts is a 200k car. I think anybody that drops 200k does indeed care about his car.
Perhaps yc can elaborate on his point, or not.

Because the Turbo models are still cars that the "regular 911" customers would look to upgrade to because it has the most power available. This is VS people who look at the GT models, generally because they want the most hard core, track technology oriented models and most of their owners know more about the cars than your average 911 buyer. Nothing wrong with that...I loved my 2012 TTS and 2001 TT...but what really got me into the fanatic game was my 2004 GT3. They are special in ways that money doesn't necessarily convey.

Agreed. And no need to differentiate between the two models by highlighting that one costs 200 and the other costs 150. Not really a salient point since probability is high that whomever can afford a GT3 can likely afford a TT/S. It's simply a choice based on usage and preferences for driving experience.

Pretty much my dealer called me to come look at a new 991TTs that someone backed out of, it was 195k to drive it home. White one behind the GT3
