New GT3 on order thread
#17
Hi all,
My hope is this thread can centralize all the known information about options, allocations, and builds for the 991 GT3. Those with November builds have until August 9 (so rumor has it) to finalize their builds, we need as much information out there as possible. Those with later builds can get some food for thought, or drooling material.
It'll also be nice to see just how many allocations the US got.
I hope we can generate a separate thread like "rants and raves" for those folks who want to debate the merits of the car, PDK, lack of sport seats, or the general stupidity of Porsche. It would be nice to centralize that as well so Porsche can see that not everyone is sold on the car or their engine/transmission choices.
To get the ball rolling I'll start. Here's my build. I have no pretense of making this a track car, rather it's for me to enjoy running local canyons and the great mountain roads in Colorado with my buddies. This will be my third GT3, after a 997 GT3 and a 997 GT3RS. I sold my 997.2 Turbo S to make room for this car.
Opinions and comments welcomed. All the info is copied from my proforma.

Yellow belts are the one thing I think I may change. Just not sure I like yellow calipers with red belts/stitching. Red inside is a little busy. Had yellow belts and yellow stitching in my last white GT3 and loved it. Thought I'd try something else. Everyone I've asked says go yellow belts.
Anyone else think yellow belts?

Guys........I am still on the side that I have not received a call from my dealer. Yes I know not good. Apparently I am or was or whatever fourth in line. So far they've got 2 allocations and God only should know when the third and distant fourth will come to existence.
Any thoughts of my distant and hopeful allocation????

I sat in what I think were the 18 way seats on a 991S the other day and was not impressed. Fingers crossed the sport buckets arrive in Q1. I would skip the "upgrade" and rip out the sport seats when the buckets become available.
I think I've also now been convinced to skip the front lift. Nick, you live close to me...what did you decide for the lift?

Mike, I fully understand your position. To be honest other than appearance I am not sure to what extent sport buckets will make a difference in performance driving. My TT Cab had the adaptive seats and they were just fine. When I was driving the Stradale, after 20 minutes I had a headache. Not very comfortable.

I'm not a big fan of colored belts, especially light ones as IMO they show wear and grime more easily. I see belts as functional, not something to be accessorized. I accept that I'm probably out of step with most people on this one.

I should be first (or second) out of my local dealership...this is my buildout as of now. Trading my Turbo S in on it and going on the list for an RS at another dealer. Ya...I loaded the thing up.

As far as the front axel lift...I figure why not because that front lip looks too easy to hit on even the slightest grade...and Im sure this lip is going to be something like 5-900 bucks given porsche's increasing pricing, so hey...why not try to save a few.

Also guys, for those planning on using the car on the street and for day to day stuff...in order to get a cig lighter (for charging phones etc), you need the smokers package which is free of charge (laugh).
