Great news, thank you, MJ!
Excellent, my Q3 2014 (MY2015) build should have this option available.

Sports Buckets were available on RoW cars from inception ... only N.A cars did not have this option

The white 991 GT3 on display today outside the Porsche Zentrum at The Quail Lodge in California had what looked like sport bucket seats with carbon fiber backs. they had a leather loop at the back of the seat to pull in order to release the seat back to fold forward to provide access to the rear. They were comfortable and seemed to provide good support. Don't know if/when they will be available for US cars.

I was there today too. That was a ROW car with the same sport buckets that have been available for the last several years and are currently offered in the new GT3 everywhere but North America. Here in the US we're waiting for a new DOT certified seat for the 991/GT3 that is similar to the one in the 918 and supposedly has a fixed back. Allegedly will be available in US GT3's by the 1st or 2nd quarter of 2014.

The Porsche representative at the Quail show today said that the seats in the white 991 GT3 on display would be the ones coming to the US. I didn't get his name, but he seemed quite knowledgable. So, mabe he's right? I hope so.

Hmmm. I wasn't at Quail so I don't know. FWIW, while the Porsche folks at Porsche Zentrum seemed really knowledgeable too a couple of them tried to tell me that the Cayenne Diesel I drove on a test drive there wasn't turbocharged. Just sayin.....

Here's a quote from Pete Stout's GT3 review in Panorama that seem to indicate that a new sport seat will be coming...

"...Sadly these sport bucket seats aren't available in U.S. 991 GT3s, but they'll be replaced by lightweight seats adapted from the new 918."

I wonder when we'll see these ??

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I can't resist. When we saw the GT3 at Pebble last week, my wife and I got in the car and she remarked that the seats were much more comfortable than those in my 991 and hoped that I had ordered the same for my new GT3. Of course, the GT3 had the RoW sport buckets, so I said "ahhhh there's an issue here. Maybe you should talk to some of the RL people about it. There are some pretty strong opinions out there!"

I'm adopting a "wait and see" on this, if those seats (i.e the GT2 Sports Buckets that were available up until recently (991)) were previously compliant, I could imagine that Porsche would at least explore the possibility of making those existing seats again compliant with N.A stds, rather than developing a completely new seat, despite the fact that the 918 will need them. To the uninitiated here (me) it would seem potentially cheaper to do this than build a new seat just for the N.A market.

Having said that, I could imagine that a variant of a 918 fixed back seat might be made available in RoW (and maybe even here for a change) as the seat for the clubsport pkg (replacing the Sport Bucket that is available now)

just say'in

The 918 will be in the US for prospective buyers test drives in various cities starting next month. How are they able to use the 918 sport bucket seats in the US if they have not been approved? Is it possible they have been approved and the GT3 sport bucket approval to follow soon?

No certification is required for the 918 as it is limited production.

Are you just saying this because it sounds logical to you, or you actually know? All cars which come to the US require certification, unless they are licensed as show n go for limited yearly mileage. Even cars which end up not complying on safety standards for example, like lotus Elise, then get a limited exemption. All cars go through the process though AFAIK.

Stitching question.. On the 997, if you ordered contrasting red stitching and then had sports seats, did these also come with red stitching? I a recent video I saw of 991 gt3, I think the evo one, I saw red gt3 lettering on sport seat headrest.. Does this mean whole seat has red stitching?
