I bought a 992 GT3 early, based on reviews, drives, and feedback of the 991.2 GT3. They are very different cars and I ultimately sold the 992 to get in a 991.2 Touring. So, as others have said, it can end at GT3 but it might not be a new one. I’ll only sell my .2 for an R or S/T.

I realized that my peak car has to have a manual and I'm not reasonably improving on my 991.2 gt3. Canceled my z06 order

I’ve driven both a 992 3 and a 991.2 RS and the 997 still feels more special to me, though obviously not as technically impressive (which isn’t really the point of them anymore).

If you still need more power, a Dundon power pack adds 70ish hp.

Sounds like the 997.1 with some tweaks can really be quite the occasion as a weekend warrior. I’m sure the 991.2 outpaces it on the track and is an easier car to drive to the limit for more novice drivers (such as myself).

The main reason the 997.1 is enticing me is the increased visceral driving experience even above that of the 991.2 GT3 I’m consistently hearing of. I need to find a local 997.1 car to see if it lives up to the online praise/hype.

Agree, 991.2 feels a bit more raw having driven both. I voted with my wallet, 991.2 in garage.

I do not think the 997.1 has a more visceral experience than the 991.2, not sure where you are hearing that. You need to drive one, they are great cars no doubt but the engine is slow to rev and overall I felt the 991.2 was a significantly better experience. The shifter is a standout on the 997.1 but the 991.2 shifter is just as good and it improves in every other area as well. The prices 997.1 are at now vs 991.2 makes the choice pretty easy imo.

tough to spend this much without seeing and driving the car plus the loss of the tax savings buying out of province hurts
I bought out of province, traded the car to the Alberta dealer and drove it home to BC. I’m sure they’d be interested in your GTS trade even if you trailer it there (better yet drive it there and drive the GT3 home!).

Hearing it quite often in archived threads in the 997 forums and various groups (no shocker there, bias I’m sure is intertwined). Definitely need to drive one, I’ll continue my search locally - don’t want to derail this thread further than I already have.

PS - I already own a 991.2, was looking at adding a 997.1 to the stable as a sister car to the 991.2 already present.

pardon my ignorance, but do you not have to pay the tax when you then register in BC? or is it only tax on the difference? i.e when I register in Ontario I only pay tax on the difference between the touring and the value of my car?

driving would be cool but the timing doesn't work with the weather!

And worth mentioning, not just another manual transmission in the GT3. It's one of the best gates in the world. Precise, positive, sturdy, not too short or long throw, right sized shifter, ergonomics to driver are on point, etc...

Plus, the transmission is dynamic in that you can drive it traditionally, or opt into the modern software updates that make it a negligible loss to pdk.

It will always be great, no transmission technology to come will substitute for the experience.

I am frequently browsing online for 996 C4S’s. I used to have one and think about replacing my daily driver 2023 Civic SI with another one. I love the look of them, though prices have certainly gone up since I had mine. It obviously does not match the driving experience and drama of a GT3.

Though I have to say that I am impressed with the Honda. It’s fun, comfortable and economical. Impressive handling too for a FWD car and very nice manual transmission. I guess I miss the sound of a flat 6 when going about my daily driving. I think whether it’s a daily or weekend car, it needs to be fun in some way and a car you look forward to driving.

edit: To answer the OP’s question, it has stopped my search in regards to my GT3T since nothing at this moment interests me. The 992 is nice but not for me. I really like the 991 style. Also, buying a new Porsche sports car these days is a real turn off for me with all the stories I hear about playing the dealership games.

The GT3 was my 'dream car' for as long as I can remember. I bought my GT3T from a Ferrari dealership clear across the country and when I first jumped into it the day it was delivered, I felt finally at home. It was the first time driving or even riding in a 911 of any kind much less a GT3. Up to this point, I had tried to scratch the itch as best as possible ... in 2001 I bought a E36 M3 and thought I had 'made it' when that happened. But I quickly became bored with the lack of power, etc. and started hopping from one BMW M product to the other. Skipped the E46 generation but had an E90 M3, a couple E92s, and two M5s. Sprinkled in a Ford GT350 during those days as well but none of those cars completely satisfied me and the GT3 always seemed out of reach until during Covid I told myself that life was short and just buy a GT3 already. It has ended up being one of the best financial decisions I've made based on the joy the car has brought me and the friends I've made through driving events, etc. Every time I drive it feels special and it brings a smile to my face like no car ever has before.

Now that I have the GT3, it has just made me want more Porsche's! About a year ago I bought a 993 to get into the air-cooled world and that's a completely different level of fun and opens up that many more opportunities to restore and mod that car. So now I have two 911s that I don't plan to ever sell but I still have another itch to scratch. That is to be able to order a new Porsche GT car to my individual spec. That seems to be the holy grail of Porsche GT ownership and as we know comes with another set of challenges. So the pursuit and thrill of that pursuit never ends for us I don't believe, but once you have a GT3, you stop thinking about getting anything better, and just work to figure out how to get more than one.

GT3 RS took my money in the end, and I have never been a Porsche guy. I honestly didn't understand them growing up.

Want a manual sports cars, which there are not many. Drove 992 Carrera T, GTS, in manual. Wasn't in love. The engine is turbo, yet makes no cool turbo noises, but sounds pretty generic. The dash on the 992 is too digital for me, too generic. Drove a C8 stingray, great value, not manual, but lots of fun to drive.

Local dealer had a GT3 RS- Drove it, and immediately went ~100k over my initial budget.

Nice cars. Aventurine Green? The old style AG looks much better than the new version.

We have very similar car histories and I also have a. 993/GT3T garage.

993 is a great platform to modify. It's a great car stock, but it can be taken to a whole different level with mods and there is such an enormous knowledge base on that car. You can totally transform it. I'd like to forget the amount of money I've spent on mine, but the end result is a Porsche go-kart, so I can't complain.

The GT3 is a completed product. For street driving it's basically done. I put in a Numeric SSK and 911R shifter and SW bypass exhaust and wheels, but that's it. Done. I've owned a variety of water cooled 911s and this is pretty much peak 911 for my money.
