Really great thread. I have had 4 GT cars in the 997-991 range (.1 and .2) in each, 3 of which were RS). I tried going back to a Turbo S in the middle, and flipped back to the GT cars within months. I think it's the combination of sounds created above 7,000RPM and the overall chassis/driver connection of these cars that will keep them in my garage as far as the eye can see right now. I think these qualities run the length of the variants, touring, GT3, RS, Speedsters etc. etc That being said, I am pathological about swapping our daily driver sedans.... so I scratch that (something different) itch outside the Porsche nameplate for the most part. FWIW, I can't think of anyone I know regretting a decision to try a GT car......

Not all GT cars are created equal. I very much regretted buying a 981 GT4 based solely on reviews and forum heresay without driving it first. Possibly the most boring car I've ever owned for street use, I sold it in a month.
That being said, I personally have never known someone regret getting a GT3 variant. That's an apex predator.
For me it did...I still buy other cars but the Touring is my forever car. Fits me like a glove and it grabbed ahold of me instantly.
Something about that darn 991.2 Touring. AP sprinkled some magic dust in each and every one. The most visceral car I've ever driven. The 4 RS has some magic also but can't match the touring's secret sauce.
I'm at 30k miles and I wish it were 300k miles.
Ihad a 997.1 GT3 and it didn't do anything for me. Sunroof, not very fast etc...great car but not special IMO.
This is an interesting thing to read as a 991.2 GT3 owner looking to potentially add a 997.1 GT3 to the stable for the supposed ‘specialness’ of the ‘zingy’ 3.6 Mezger. Is this a case of beauty is in the eye of the beholder?

I had a long drive in a 997.1 GT3. The shifter was a standout, but engine felt slow to rev. Probably can fix that with a LWFW, overall I felt they were a great value in the past but not now.
OP there’s one in Edmonton. Good time to buy, inventory seems to be slow / stuck. These don’t show up very often on the porsche finder in Canada. Good luck, I know you’ve been poking around for a while for a different car. I doubt you’d regret this move. IMO the 991.2 Touring is the best looking modern 911.
Yes and no. There are so many different cool cars that I would love to own, but storage space and budget considerations prevent that. I can certainly say that I don't envision parting with my 991.2 GT3 anytime soon (or maybe ever), as I'm completely in love with it for both street and track use. I've added or rotated others in the modest stable around it (including the current "investment portfolio" shown below), and I love those too, but don't feel quite the same sense of long-term attachment and satisfaction as I do with the GT3.

In my opinion, if you really want a special drive pick one up and then couple it with a lightweight flywheel and then the ring and pinion from the .2rs (pretty easy to do both at the same time). 997s have pretty long gearing compared to the 991s and the ring and pinion largely fixes that. I’ve driven both a 992 3 and a 991.2 RS and the 997 still feels more special to me, though obviously not as technically impressive (which isn’t really the point of them anymore).
If you still need more power, a Dundon power pack adds 70ish hp.

thank you sir, I have been eyeing this one for a bit, it did disappear for a bit so appeared to sell, now it's back
tough to spend this much without seeing and driving the car plus the loss of the tax savings buying out of province hurts
I like variety... (sort of - don't need any variety in transmissions or colors*).
* red Ferrari doesn't count because red is silver in Italian
The F355 is still one of the most beautiful looking and sounding cars ever. The dumb movie "Bulletproof" from back in the 90's has a great scene with one in it.
for me, yes; but I don't get to drive it as much as I'd like; so every time I do, makes me giddy all over again. If your plan
is to drive it regularly, then the itch will come back.

A friend of mine went to sharkwerks to get his coolant lines pinned on his .1 gt3 and ended up doing the guards LSD and RS 4.0 flywheel/clutch at the same time. He said it completely changed the experience of the car. He’s got nearly 100k miles on the car now
