Should we just use Mobil 1 or are there other oils that could be "better"? Someone on this forum who builds engines suggested that failures might be higher in cars using Mobil 1 but I can't remember who it was and in any case they did not suggest an alternative. The only reason I can imagine an alternative oil being "better" is if it had a formulation or additives that Porsche wouldn't use from the factory for emissions or environmental reasons but I am way outside of my knowledge base at this point.
Does the engine warranty get voided if we use alternative oils (I am assuming so in general but also assume there may be alternatives that meet Porsche spec and are therefore allowable but I don't know).
I have a G6 motor and my warranty ends 08/24 - I am planning to keep the car for awhile and am hoping the engine can last well beyond that date. If there is an oil that protects better I am interested but then I have no problem sticking with the factory recommended oil if it's as good as any alternative.
Two things I found that surprised me:
(1) US made Mobil 1 is formulated for ethanol based gasoline. European made Mobil 1 is not formulated for use with Ethanol.
(2) European made Mobil 1 is formulated for stricter emissions standards than in the US with additives designed for extended miles/km between oil changes. These additives also provide better lubrication and viscosity as well.
In my opinion a "G6" motor is fine with US made Mobil 1 as the lubrication issue is well addressed.
For E, F (possibly G0) motors, European Mobil 1 A40, Motul 8100 X-cess gen2 A40 5W-40 and Moly Synthoil Energy A40 5W-40 have additives to better assist with the lubrication issues which may or may not help the DLC issues. Think added insurance and some peace-of-mind.
As far as using the aforementioned oils with Ethanol based fuel, IMO, as long as you're not tracking or constantly riding your rev-limiter, you should be fine.
Lastly, my local dealer service manager told me as long as you use an A40 approved oil there should be no issues. Just save your receipts.
FWIW, a local guy with a 2014 with a replacement E motor has well over 60,000 miles on his and has always used the European Formulated Mobil 1.
I did a search on this forum and there really isn't a post related to this question for at least the last few years and since the G6 motor has been out only the last few years I felt it was a relevant question. I realize there is an endless stream of opinions and ideas about "which oil is best" but I think that Tiny gave us some good information. It's good to know that an A40 oil is the requirement.
Here's another A40 approved oil:

Here's an old article that references Redline Oil:

Here's the European Mobil 1 A40 Specifications:

I wish someone would compile a Properties table for all the oils similar to this European Mobil 1:
previous search didn’t find this earlier thread due to search terms used by me but it supplements what Tiny has said. I might not have posted the question if I had found this. Looks like I will use the Motul product for my next change.
