Looking in the manual, there are a few different grades of oil to use. Where I live we don't get to freezing point and and it doesn't get ultra hot. What does anybody recommend?
Choice of oil is like religion - everyone has their opinion/belief (but atheism "going without" might not be recommended in this case). I personally like Motul X-Cess 5W40, but make sure you use a Porsche A40 approved oil to keep your warranty intact (which in your case is 10yrs/120k miles)...
This Liqui Moly product is not approved. It has "recommendation" language on the tech sheet but it is not approved and has not been tested by Porsche to validate its use. See section for "approvals" and section for "recommendations":
The Liqui Moly product cannot claim 229.5 as a recommendation (a very standard approval) as it doesn't pass the NOACK volatility testing for Mercedes Benz. The max is 9.9% for that test. I simply wouldn't recommend it for cars in or out of warranty. Our X-cess for instance is around 8.8%
We have 3 oils sold in the USA that are approved for Porsche A40. 2 of which I recommend due to their Full SAPS formulation (ZDDP of 1000+ ppm) and past used oil analysis reports shown here on Rennlist and others. The 8100 X-cess 5W40 has proven to have better additive and viscosity retention vs Mobil 1 0W40 and other oils used here. The X-cess 5W40 as mentioned has a very low NOACK vs the industry standard so in theory, you'll see around 20% less oil consumption with X-cess versus industry averages. The other oil, 8100 X-max 0W40 is also A40 approved and is the X-cess's twin brother but just a 0W40 viscosity.
