Strut Tower issues
Anyone else see this?
After seeing this I went out and had a look under my front lid and I saw this. This is the top of my right-side strut tower. The black marks are so I can watch to see if it grows. I do track this car a lot.

That is scary. I wonder how this issue factored in the decision to move away from struts in the 992 GT3/RS.
Hoping for the best for you, but you may want to take proactive measures beyond just marking the progress of the cracks. A failure there wouldn’t be good for vehicle control.

The strut towers are cast aluminum same thing as the 981 not a good design. problem is the shocks bottom out and on the GT four there was no external bump stop. what you could do is have the crack tig welded. if your car is lowered I would put it back to stock ride height. if it goes it’s really a complex repair..Carl

It is actually a very simple repair in the grand spectrum - the GT3 Cup's have these replaced on occasion and if done right, it is all done at the factory points. The entire cast piece comes out and a new one is riveted/boneded in. Not ideal in the sense they break, but in terms of repair it is not all that difficult and the car is status-quo post repair.
I found this last Wednesday, we went ahead and did our 3-day labor day track event, we did about 16 sessions and I looked at it after each session, it didn't grow at all. I will have it welded before I track it again.

Replace the strut tower, its a common repair and in Motorsport we were trained to replace in hours. The piece is a casting not sure if welding will help, probably will just start a crack elsewhere never tried that. You do not have to replace the front tub, which doesn't include the towers anyway it stops at the luggage compartment. All of the repairs procedures are in the factory training manual, you will need the specialty hot rivets tools etc but its really not a huge deal.

All the 981, 991, and 718 ('16-18) cars use the exact same strut tower (991.501.478.00) and can have the potential for failure. As Carl mentioned earlier on the GT4, the issue is bottoming out which will add extra stress to the tower over time.
Mine happened to fail on the street hitting a pothole so I had it replaced and reinforced. Looking at the broken pieces after the fact, I strongly believe that there was a stress crack on my tower, similar to yours, for some time before it finally gave out. Feel free to DM if you have specific questions on it.

i cant believe some one hasn't developed a stamped steel cup to mount underneath between the strut and body.,,would prevent the failure and sell like popcorn,,carl

How about the strut tower support kit, apparently Cup cars have something like this:
