Default Help with purchasing 991.1 GT3 - one with replaced engine

Hi all,

I've been shopping for a GT3 and am currently looking at two options and wanted to get some opinions

Car 1 - 2014, 6500 miles, original engine (E series). Previous CPO expired a few months ago, engine warranty until Oct 2024 4 way sports seat plus.

Car 2 - 2015, almost 14000 miles, replaced engine at 2k with new G engine. CPO expires very soon, not sure when engine is warrantied to but since its already been replaced some time ago I am assuming it shouldn't matter much. 18 way adaptive sport, ceramic brakes

This car won't see any track use, so I specifically am looking for something without bucket seats (That and I want as much access to the rear for storage). Not sure how much more or less desirable the 4 vs 18 way are.

Both are clean, but car 1 obviously cleaner due to the very limited mileage. Both have front axle lift and other comparable options other than the seats and brakes.

Here's the question - do I take the lower mileage 2014 and take the chance on engine failure down the road? Or do I drive the hell out of it for the next two years and hope something happens to it to get warranty replacement... or if nothing happens in that time, know it's probably not going to fail after some more mileage. Although I could see the value dropping once out of warranty without a replacement.

Or do I take the 2015 with the already replaced engine but much higher mileage? But to offset that, much better brakes. Car 2 is $4000 more, so negligible price difference.

Colors are sapphire blue and the other is GT silver... although I don't want to say which is which to get honest opinions. I like both colors and figure they are both desirable enough for resale.

Appreciate any insight, thanks in advance.

Car # 1 for me (assuming both cars have all their maintenance up to date)… and drive the hell out of it before the 2024 deadline.

I’d take the car with the correct engine in it, no questions.

The car with the G engine... For me, the 18 way seats are much more comfortable on longer trips.

Having just bought a 2016 with a G6 motor in it, car number 2 for sure. If you don’t buy car number 2, send it my way, I have a buddy looking.

Mileage difference is less significant than that G6 motor.

I just purchased mine with a G6 engine, it was a prerequisite for me so that's the car I would pick. I like the buckets in mine but previously had the 18 way seats which are fantastic too. I do miss the heated seats!

Another vote for the car with the G6 engine. 14,000 miles does not seem terribly high for a 7 year old car, especially not one that you intend to drive and enjoy.

I had 4 ways in mine but got 991 GT2 Euro buckets to put in. We used the electronics from the 4 ways and have the seat heaters from the Euro buckets wired up to the stock switches. Best of both worlds.

Go with car #2. The engine warranty still exists even on the G6 replacement engine until 2025 for that 2015 car.

If you plan on keeping the car, the replacement motor appears to be a smart move. Frankly, not sure why anyone would buy a GT3 version Porsche if they’re not tracking it? Seems like a waste of money to me. It doesn’t ride well, rear visibility sucks, can’t go fast enough to avoid traffic frustration. Can’t park it anywhere. Can’t take long trips since there is no spare. Basically, it becomes a museum piece. Just my 2 cents after owning one for 3 years. My daily is a 718. 1/3rd the value, 2/3rd the use. My track car is the GT3. 100% use once a month. The rest of the time it sits on tire savers in the garage as my “king of the world” ego boost when suckling the **** of commerce gets me down.
