Cayenne e-hybrid - start in all electric and drive away, turn on motor when further away. You bought the wrong car...

He has to be trolling, no way this is a real question.

It's a real question. I have the same problem. I leave early in the morning and my garage acts like a megaphone and blasts all of my neighbors with exhaust noise. I've started rolling out of the garage and angling my car to the side before starting. I had a tune on my E92 M3 to turn off the cold start (had Akra GT4 race exhaust which was LOUD).

I love the start up.I have some neighbors who do also, and others that---well, I don't care what they think.
Do turn downs make it quieter? What about a small angle downward...which I thought would make it louder as the airwaves bounce back off the concrete--anyone experimented with this already!?!

If you're starting it in a garage, all of the hard surfaces (floor, walls, ceilings) are acting like a megaphone bouncing the sound out to the opening. You could install acoustical wall or ceiling panels, even rugs or something intermittently on the floor to help deaden the sound.

first world problems. I have the same exhaust. I just keep the garage door closed for first 10 seconds. It is what it is.

No way someone wants to be courteous and not wake up his neighbors?

If he really wanted to be courteous to his neighbors he wouldn't have removed the stock exhaust. You cant have your cake and eat it too, its common sense people.

You sure he didn't buy the car that way? Or installed it and didn't realize how loud it would be on cold start and now he's asking for advice about a reasonable solution that might not involve removing the exhaust since he likes it other than when he's waking up the neighbors? Anything to add other than being a jerk to the OP?

OP, I feel you on this one. I bought my car with an IPE exhaust and headers already on. I really love it! However, I get up at 5 to work out daily and when the weather was better I would sometimes take the car out. The cold starts are very loud. I oftentimes keep from taking the car out too early for this reason. I thought about backing the car in the garage so the exhaust will be facing away from neighbors house but don’t know if that would really help. I usually just try to roll out as quickly as possible but feel bad about it. Luckily my neighbors are great and we all get along well.

Soul sells an "Exhaust Valve Controller Kit" for $175 that claims you can lock the valves open or closed as you wish. Seems you have to wire it in. Comes with controller fobs.

I have a Sharkwerks CMD on my car. I start it up in the garage with the garage door down and put it in gear after 5-10 seconds, which brings the RPMs down a little. Then I open the garage door. It helps a bit and it's the best I can do to be courteous.

I have a GMG pipe. Just saying, these cars at startup are not that bad. I get the OP is concerned about his neighbors, which is a good thing.
