Default Looking for collective wisdom on buying a 991.1 GT3 (2015)

Currently negotiating on a 2015 991.1 GT3.

White, black center locks, obviously a pdk, front axel lift, some other goodies, 34k miles, msrp 147. Warranty (engine) until 2025.

We’ve agreed on 126k which includes covered shipping from MA to CA. Financing is $0 down, 1.9% interest. Buying from a Maserati dealership. We should close tomorrow. I’m feeling good about it, but would like the collective wisdom of the Rennlist team in case I’m missing something. I can afford the car, but I’m usually against putting any money into any asset that doesn’t give me a return.

but, maybe all this is neither here or there. Owned a 987 Spyder and a 993 carrera, and I miss having a Porsche for track and moto X days.

Is this car a ‘good’ deal? It’s definitely cheaper than most 991.1s out there, but I don’t have a sense of where this car was a year ago. I can tell that of all the GT3s, the 991.1s have a appreciated the least, probably because of the engine issues.

Thanks in advance!

I try not to get attached to toys, so potentially both this car and my model X will be on Turo (I work from home).

FWIW, im low on investment cash right now, mainly because we’ve purchased four investment homes in the past 2 years, and I’m plowing the cash flow from those back into more purchases. Big bonus in December should refresh the coffers.

The car doesn't sound like a terrible deal considering what they're asking for nowadays, but I would never Turo a GT3 to help justify its existence. I'm not sure of what you're afraid of the most, the depreciation, other investments, or whatever, but buy a GT3 to drive and enjoy it yourself - if you get attached to it, then all the better IMO.

yeah, maybe I should take out the Turo part. Overall thoughts on the car value itself?

I think the miles are a bit high, but you do have the warranty. Really comes down to condition, make sure you get good pictures and make sure it has no paint work.

End of the day its a not a car, but a TOY. You want to live your life always doing the right thing, go take that down payment and invest it in XYZ so one day it can be 10x and you'll be old, too tired to even take it out.
If you can afford it, buy one even if 10K over because you live Today. If you cannot afford it, continue looking

Does it have to be a Porsche PPI? Im buying this from a dealership that bought the car at an auction. They did the following:

“hi Rohit, the engine was changed and is has a warranty for 10 yrs good through 2025. The following work was done here: oil change, front pads and rotors, driver's front door seal replacement, front lip, blower motor controller/resistor replacement, coolant cap.”

I saw the photos of the car from the maserati dealer up in Boston, the rotors look like after market, eg:giro, they don't look stock, I would ask that question, The ppi should be from a porsche dealer in my opinion, it looks like a nice car for a decent price in the crazy market. buy it and enjoy it! you can always get a warranty from porsche or 3rd party for 3-6 k depending on the level.

While I'd love to hate on the Turo route, you could have that thing pay for itself in very short order.

Also - what a way to ensure you'll get the good replacement engine.

I would not buy this sight unseen without a PPI from a Porsche dealer. does it have a full, documented service history, carfax report?

That is a lot of car for the money but doing a PPI would be the safest route imo.

What we've agreed to in the purchase agreement is that I will do the PPI once I receive it, and they will cover the cost of any items that the PPI turns up.

Great catch. They actually did tell me they (the dealership) replaced the rotors.

Good luck with that approach. I am a big believer in the pre part of the PPI, fighting a dealership post sale for issues found by another dealership sounds like a very risky strategy to me.
