I have a 997.2 and 991.1 RS. 997.2 is definitely more fun on the street than any 991 RS IMO. Much more raw and visceral plus the shifter is perfection once you get used to it. However, 997.2 RS is significantly slower than a 991 RS, but I feel the 997.2 is plenty fast enough especially for street use. I love both and the two compliment each other extremely well, but I would choose the 997.2 RS if I could only keep one.
I wish I could own a 997.2 RS, but there is no way to find a 10 year old car without stories. They are visceral but they are also much costlier to maintain and while fragile isnt the right word for them, they require special care. 991 cars are a lot less headache from that perspective.
My RS is straight piped, that makes it pretty raw vs stock ones but it still doesnt have the 997 steering feel, the stiff clutch/shifter, very unforgiving rear end (in a good way).
Sweet collection! I’ve been considering selling my 991.2 3 RS for a 997.2 gt3 because I feel the 991 is too soft with zero character at low speeds. Do you think a 997 GT3 would fix this? Would love to hear your opinion on 997 vs 991 GT cars in general. Thank you
1) You used the word soft. the 997 gt3/rs are significantly softer than a 991.2 3rs, that’s perhaps one of the stiffest cars from factory I’ve ever driven. Even Mclaren and Ferrari have nothing I’ve personally driven that come close to as stiff as the 991.3 3rs, it’s an absurdly stiff car
2) as for fun factor at low speeds I don’t think 997gt3 is the car....the 997 gt3 I had, imo under 4500 the car drove like a Honda Accord, after it drove like a proper sports car and was a beast. So that means to have fun you have to basically be redlining and in just 2nd gear that was almost 85-90 mph from what I remember
the weakest point of the 997 gt3 was the damn long legged gearing not many talk about. The 991.2 3rs has so much more power you can kind of drive it around town like a muscle car and in remote areas like a proper racecar hahaha that’s my 2 cents
p.s. I loved the vtec nature of the 997gt3/rs cars but that also meant you really had to be up in the revs and unless your staying in 1st it means you are going REAL fast lol
I really liked and enjoyed the 997GT3's but to me the 991RS is on another level. I put 20k on my first one and just purchased my second one.
I think it would be great to own GT3 and RS and may do that sometime later this year.
What made you go 2007 to 2008 on the RS and then again 2016 to another 2016? Just sold and regretted and rebought or what?
I am kicking around the idea of getting a 992 gt3 manual as I will definitely get rid of my e46 m3 soon.
What I would love more than anything is if they made the Carrera T or GTS and just pulled off the turbos and did some weight savings stuff of the Gt3 but stayed with the 3 liter sans turbo and threw in the 6 speed manual and some sofas. It would be around 3k pounds and have maybe 350 hp. I want that, I can dream right.
So I own a 991.1 GT3RS, a GT2RS and a speedster....they are all quite different yet quite the same as you'd imagine.
Without question the speedster gets the most use...manual, convertible and just eats up the bumps and potholes with ease and comfort...yet when you push it...it moves around and is playful like an old school 911...honestly I'd be more than fine with just the speedster but appreciate the others and have room for them so they will stay.
I think what I'm saying is just get a speedster lol

2007 and 2008 RS was a color change...orange to black
On the 2016RS yes I missed the car. I replaced with a 992TTS and decided I liked the 991RS more.

Most people regard the GT3T as one of the GOATs but the "magic" eluded me. It was noisy inside but not in a nice way and I did not get along with the manual shift. So for commutes, I just did not enjoy it. And on track, the gearbox frustrated me due to its tendency for gear changes to baulk, especially 3rd to 2nd, when the right hand side of the car was loaded in tight left handers....and I was not the only person to complain of this. So overall, it was my least liked car....but I admit that I remain an an odd man out when it comes to this opinion.
Whereas my 997.2 RS, and my 996 GT3 RS and my 964 RS all had liberal lashings of fairy dust that was easy to find and feel. I kept the GT3 Touring for over 3 years in hope that I would eventually find the magic......but I never did. So I sold it to get a 992 Touring. Maybe I will find the missing magic there.
