This is a very interesting perspective. I was looking for feedback from people exactly like yourself. Why did you find touring annoying? And also is that a 997.2 RS? How does that compare?
Yes, thats a 997.2 RS. A fantastic car. One of very favourites.
Most people regard the GT3T as one of the GOATs but the "magic" eluded me. It was noisy inside but not in a nice way and I did not get along with the manual shift. So for commutes, I just did not enjoy it. And on track, the gearbox frustrated me due to its tendency for gear changes to baulk, especially 3rd to 2nd, when the right hand side of the car was loaded in tight left handers....and I was not the only person to complain of this. So overall, it was my least liked car....but I admit that I remain an an odd man out when it comes to this opinion.
Whereas my 997.2 RS, and my 996 GT3 RS and my 964 RS all had liberal lashings of fairy dust that was easy to find and feel. I kept the GT3 Touring for over 3 years in hope that I would eventually find the magic......but I never did. So I sold it to get a 992 Touring. Maybe I will find the missing magic there.
The Spyder is great and really enjoying it thus far. Love the looks of it and can't do the top down thing in the GT3 or 3RS. Maybe a Speedster would be the perfect all-in-one, but not one of my options currently.
For all the complaints I've seen and read about the long gearing, it hasn't bothered me. My only gripe is the exhaust note. Above 4K when the valves open up it sounds nice, but below that it's completely unremarkable. Will probably do one of the rear section exhaust options soon.
The 718 Spyder is not lacking, the 4.0 engine in the 3's is just so epic, IMHO. As it should be given the price difference between the cars.

I’m always baffled at what people like and don’t like as well. for instance I think the e36 and e92 m3’s are the woat. The e46 are even overrated tbh the 997 normal gt3 are totally whatever to me
“Normal” gt3’s tend to be too middle ground for me, I’d rather have something more comfy or more racey
but what I am surprised is that you don’t own a 993! I LOVE the 993’s, they truly are the end of an era and feel nothing like anything after them. I’ve never driven a 964 rs and I bet that thing is epic

Agree! GT3 Touring really needed a PDK option to complete its mission (nothing to do with the stick/pdk preference - more a fitness of individual purpose). As to 993 - best looking 911 ever, but way too soft in the performance department - was dumbed down from 964 to broaden its appeal and manufacturability - softer clutch engagement and revised pedal placement. It was not a "hard core", bone rattling, teeth jarring car - and misses something because it misses that attribute. Sure looks good though and it has its fans. However, looks aren't everything when it comes to knife edge performance.
Is there anyone here who owns both GT3RS and GT3 (excluding the 997 cars)? I am seriously considering adding a GT3, I just dont know if I would get bored from the GT3. The reason for the GT3 is to have a more casual/analog experience. That being said, I dont know if owning both cars would wear off after 500-600 miles. GT3 would be manual and the RS is .2 non WP.
Had a .2GT3RS for 2019 and 2020.
Tracked it extensively, trailered it to the track and loved it!
In early 2020, my wife traded her GTS for a .2GT3 with PDK..
Started tracking her GT3 as well in 2020 and found I was really as fast in her GT3 as in the RS......
I am an intermediate driver and we did not have any benefit of instruction during 2020, may have been an issue....
So, at the end of 2020, I sold the RS and trailer (it got to be a pain with offsite storage), the RS was a "more exciting" car but I could not really make it perform much better than the GT3....
Ordered a new GT4/PDK which is "track ready" now, awaiting track opening....

Thought about the same thing. Ended up deciding not to do it because they are too similar. Now leaning towards a GT4RS + GT3RS. Still very similar but probably enough differentiation from weight distribution. Other option is to get a high horsepower car (Mclaren or modern Ferrari)
I want to build a low HP car, something extremely fun and capable, but needs ringed out, as all these cars can get you into trouble quickly. I had my first "oh ****, i am going to jail" moment a few months ago. Thank god the officeer didnt, but it started out that way, then he calmed down and it looks like it will become a 9 over. It was a total accident and I didnt realize how fast it was going. I think thats the hardest part to manage with all these cars. They are all so capable, you can really cover some ground quickly

And I would add that, for the moment, I am over old Pcars. They are expensive to buy and damn expensive to maintain. My 997 had to have a new steering rack fitted and the gearbox attended to (all 997 RS have 3rd gear issues) after only 10,000 miles. And my 996 RS needed a complete engine overhaul due to oil leaks. Indeed while the driving experience of both these cars was second to none, by the time I sold them, I ended up losing a lot of money due to the accumulated maintenance costs on both cars over 5 years of ownership. Although to counter this, my 964 RS has been bullet proof having spent almost nothing on it since I bought it 2017.
So I am going to keep my 964 RS as my only classic car and then re-stock my garage with some modern day machinery.

Why don't I won a 993?
Simple...I belong to the Chris Harris school of thought that thinks the 993 just looks plain wrong. Both the front and the back look like they came from different cars. To me, the 964 is "the 911". The last of the upright headlight design. The first with ABS and power steering. It has one foot in the old world and another foot in the new world.
Until recently I owned a 991.2 GT3, a 991.2 Touing and a 991.2 RS all at the same time.
I ended up spending more seat time in the RS because every drive was nothing less than exciting. The combination of the PDK and engine in this car is one of the best ever. I also put a lot of miles on my GT3 which was effectively my daily. Of the three, I put in far less seat time in the Touring because I found it annoying for around town commutes and overall, as a car, it excited be far less.
Three years ago I had a conversation about this with Chris3963 which resulted in me ordering an RS instead of a touring. It’s interesting to see that the assessment didn’t change since.
I recently considered this, adding a manual GT3, but decided a mclaren offered a different and distinct driving experience to the RS. having owned a .2 (admittedly a PDK) and an RS I would think they offer too similar a driving experience.
I agree. I have a 991.2 3RS and have driven friends’ non RS 991. They are way too similar to offer a substantially different driving experience. Is keep the ZR1. I hear those things are monsters. Good luck

Sweet collection! I’ve been considering selling my 991.2 3 RS for a 997.2 gt3 because I feel the 991 is too soft with zero character at low speeds. Do you think a 997 GT3 would fix this? Would love to hear your opinion on 997 vs 991 GT cars in general. Thank you

I have a 997.2 and 991.1 RS. 997.2 is definitely more fun on the street than any 991 RS IMO. Much more raw and visceral plus the shifter is perfection once you get used to it. However, 997.2 RS is significantly slower than a 991 RS, but I feel the 997.2 is plenty fast enough especially for street use. I love both and the two compliment each other extremely well, but I would choose the 997.2 RS if I could only keep one.
