Owning both GT3 and GT3RS at the same time

MT GT3 4ways with dundon street headers. RS lwbs with JCR race pipe. Transmission alone was enough difference. The different exhaust systems add to the difference as do the seats. Suspension also adds difference. RS has noticeably more front end bite when you start to push it. Not sure I would have been willing to give up the ZR1 for a GT3 with a RS already in the garage.

I dont track the RS. And I cant give up the RS. Reason is it gives me the closest proper race car experience. The downshifts using the PDK lever is the next best thing to the sequential gearboxes that I will never be able to experience. They are so explosive, even at low 4000 rpms coming to a red light and downshifting from 5th all the way to 1st. Then there is the extremely direct precise steering and stiff (in a very good way) ride that GT3 does not have. Manual simply does not give me the goosebumps the RS does. Dont hang me for saying this, but the way this engine revs, PDK is a much more appropriate transmission. Manual is nostalgic and is unique and yes it is really technically advanced with the no lift shift (which btw is no different than PDK except you are pressing a pedal but whats the point? I would want manual for all the imperfections and mistakes that comes with it) and yes there could be a place for it but never in place of an RS. RS with straight pipes is an experience unlike any other car. That being said, as with any car, if you drive it enough you get bored of it. All the things I mentioned above, wears you down. So you need a car for those other days where you simply want to cruise and perhaps go longer distances than 20-30 mile country backroads. I simply cannot tolerate those types of trips with the RS.
But I hear you and I dont necessarily disagree with you. Ideally I would love to have a touring but at 250k I would have to give up my C7 ZR1. And I think that would be a mistake as that provides a much more unique experience over a base manual (Given I have an RS).

Currently own .2 3RS, .2 GT3 (6spd) and 718 Spyder (6spd). While there is definitely overlap between the GT3 and 3RS, there are enough differences to make them each special in unique ways. Especially since the GT3 is manual. I've had both at the track and absolutely prefer the 3RS for track duty, but usually grab the keys to the GT3 if I'm just going for a canyon run.
When I added the 718 Spyder I thought that might convince me to let go of the GT3, but I just can't do it. Even with the prices as high as they have gotten recently. That 4.0 liter GT engine paired to a manual gearbox is just so awesome and satisfying to drive.

I own a 2015 GT3 and 2019 GT3 RS, both PDK.
2015 GT3, just for the track, my son is actually driving it.
GT3 & GT3 RS @ Salinas Speedway
2019 GT3 RS I drive the RS.

Thought about the same thing. Ended up deciding not to do it because they are too similar. Now leaning towards a GT4RS + GT3RS. Still very similar but probably enough differentiation from weight distribution. Other option is to get a high horsepower car (Mclaren or modern Ferrari)

I ended up spending more seat time in the RS because every drive was nothing less than exciting. The combination of the PDK and engine in this car is one of the best ever. I also put a lot of miles on my GT3 which was effectively my daily. Of the three, I put in far less seat time in the Touring because I found it annoying for around town commutes and overall, as a car, it excited be far less.
I ended up spending more seat time in the RS because every drive was nothing less than exciting. The combination of the PDK and engine in this car is one of the best ever. I also put a lot of miles on my GT3 which was effectively my daily. Of the three, I put in far less seat time in the Touring because I found it annoying for around town commutes and overall, as a car, it excited be far less.

I thought about this but the GT3 touring is just too expensive right now and to me it just aesthetically seems so similar. I like change. I have a .2rs which I love , Just over 8000 miles now. But I really want a front engine rwd v8 beast manual car too while they’re still available and after a lot of searching I was able to pin down a ZL1 1LE 6 speed MT. I think I literally bought the last one for sale currently in the US a couple weeks ago. So hopefully that satisfies my urge to shift gears manually again, but if I had the budget I would probably do the 1, 2 combo of the RS and the GT3 touring.... even though it would also kind of bug me that car visually is just look so similar. Love that you have the ZR1 Corvette, seems like your garage is pretty complete with that monster. Any chance that’s a manual? EDIT! ...it is a manual zr1 you have. Done. I’d say skip the gt3, you’re good!! ...burn those $$ elsewhere there’s gotta be some other items on your “wish” list.

I can't afford both, but I think a Turbo S and a GT3 RS would be the perfect combo.

But if money and space were limited to two toy cars and the RS was staying, I think it would be cool to compliment it with something with a greater degree of separation from an engineering perspective rather than a marketing one.
IMO - something like a manual GTS targa would be incredible. But you can go nuts with the possibilities if a manual .2 GT3 was being budgeted for in 2021.

I owned a 991.2 GT3RS with the Weissach package and a 991 GT3 touring at the same time. For my use and how other cars meet my needs, I ended up only driving the GT3RS ~700 miles and sold it. I kept the GT3T but I also have a 911R so my preference for driving experience is highly biased one way.
Of course, the suspension, the PDK shifts, the stock exhaust sound, the aggressive looks, the launch control, and all the performance enhancing aspects are incredible on the GT3RS. I don’t track street cars anymore and I have other cars that fill the dual clutch lightning fast shift need.
Caveat, I’m also adding a 992 GT3T so I’m probably an oddball and my perspective might be informational but doesn’t apply to most.
