Basically you won't recoup your ADM, and also won't recoup more than fraction of PPF cost
Then you have to realize they are not going to consider a transaction that nets them <$10k profit
They then have to CPO your car which costs ~$5k
So your friend is adding a nice cushion of safety from $165k to whatever your car winds up selling depending on market vagaries which now favor the seller but may do so less if 992 Touring is announced in a month with a sober clean look and back seats...
They are in it for $ and he/she made sure to not respond to you for 10 days to get point across that they are not desperate...

At least your GM is still at same place. I bought 2 911 from same place and built a "great" relationship with my "favorite" dealer ending up having to pay only $12.5k ADM on my '19GT3RS and feeling honored that it wasn't higher only for the GM to leave that dealership and even better having the mechanic take my RS for a 40 mile road test after its 1 year service...because that's how long test drive needs to be after an alignment and oil/filter change...

Scumbags come in different shapes and sizes....

Dude. This is bringing me down. I'll drive your car for the summer.

There. Problem solved.

(Oh and I'll buy it for $150K too, if you are, in fact, interested )

You want a relationship, get a dog.

All car dealers are like a one car stand.

Moving units and making a profit is on top of dealers minds in our society, I have learned allot from family members who are in this industry to not even buy from them LOL. A dealer once made a comment that he would put a picture up of me so all his sales folks would not talk to me as I left over $20 per month on a 100k car years ago. I might have a different mind set that most on here, modern GT cars are just a piece of metal and have no emotional attachment to me, if I don't agree with the price/deal then I just walk as I am not one of those "I have to have it types" LOL

This. Or bring a suitcase full of cash (in the form of your Touring) to the dealer like Mooty suggested.

If you are after an allocation for a 992--and thats what you REALLY want (but all he heard is you want to sell him your car)--go in and talk to the guy rather than via email, take the touring with you and work out a deal to get on their 992 list at MSRP - your ADM will be in the form of your Touring. Maybe he is mixing your name up with another customer with similar name and is thinking of someone else (I'm guilty of that with 80+ emails a day), or you caught him on a really busy day or time where he didn't have full attention (evidenced by lack of immediate followup)...That dealership will sell your car easily for 190+ in todays market. Fair for them to make a profit. What is an acceptable trade offer to you on the Touring so you don't have to go through the BS of selling yourself? 170? 180? Offer it as a trade on a guaranteed 992 allocation but make sure they are giving you way over 150K for it if what you really want is a 992. Otherwise you can easily sell it here on RL for 180K, likely more....Otherwise all I see is you lifted your skirt a bit and he's interested in getting down to business rather than buying you dinner first, get out of that relationship.

For anyone who want to peak at the sausage making process of car sales, spend some time in the r/askcarsales subreddit. Some of those folks are scary. The cream comes to the top though and the smart, ethical ones end up at the higher end dealerships like Porsche, Audi, RR...etc. and tend to be more into cars and passionate about the industry. Doesn't mean they still don't want to profit, but they make the process nicer, and service is better. In the end buying a car to a customer is a big life event, to them its push another unit, its just what they do, nothing special.

They’re not your friend it’s a business.
I guess the response and delay in response could be considered a polite F off and/or start of negotiations. Either way I don’t think it’s in dealers interest to start a negotiation as if they’re falling out of a chair to make a deal.

just counter offer if you’re serious. Or just sell your car on open market and make $$$ to pay off your future ADM payment on a 992. You have options too.

I'm a General Manager and I know my own "phycology" quite well. Not everyone is the same, not every company is the same and not every culture is the same.

Yes, it's a business. Just like EVERY other business on the planet, it exists to make a profit...so don't go getting the impression that I'm trying to paint myself as some kind of charitable fund manager. That said, we also operate under the philosophy of creating lifetime customers and that requires transparency, consistency and communication. Are there plenty of sh!tbags out there? Yes, absolutely. Just maybe try not to pin a label on me until you've stepped through our doors and experienced us firsthand.

(Mods - FYI, this isn't a clever attempt at business networking. I'll not divulge the name, location or brand of my dealership on this board - in public or in PM - to not run afoul of rennlist sponsorship guidelines. I'm just here for the Porsches.)

It's a business "relationship". They charged you $15K ADM? That tells you what kind of relationship this is...

It's like a $1000 hooker....

No offense but there is no relationship....you're not friends with him you had a business transaction....relationships in Porsche are most often built by buying NON GT cars....I'm sure you'll find a dealer that work with your scenario....it sounds as though you want a retail number on your trade though....and if you think introducing yourself to the owner at your CC so you become friends and get to the head of the line for a GT car, well, that's pretty funny....

you may be trying too hard. casual conversation is one thing but gifts, bottles of wine?? i've been in sales all my life and that would make me suspect right off the bat.

if you two don't visit each others homes, holiday together, wives hang out - you have no relationship...

Car dealers are car dealers no matter the brand, relationship etc. Dont ever get confused about their true motives.

It’s just business. He’s going to sell every 992 he gets with or without you. I wouldn’t take it personally. His offer on the touring sucks. Put it up at BAT. Or don’t. I don’t know why you’d sell it until the perfect 992 spec tore the keys out of your hand, but to each their own.

sometimes two parties just don’t have a great alignment to negotiate a deal, so there’s no deal. That’s business. life is too short to angst over it
