Hello all. As the title says, I'm considering a 2016 GT3 RS meaning I'm in the market for one. Did a lot of research but does anything stand out that I should watch out for? Any 'must have' options? Anything that really should be checked before purchase? For reference, my last Porsche was a 2003 996 TT. I'm looking for something below 5K miles/8K km. I've seen some that have been on the market for some time (+30 days) and that makes me a bit nervous in the market right now with things flying off the shelf. Thanks in advance for any comments.

 

Not to get into the seat argument as I'm a 18-way owner myself; however, I wouldn't touch any RS with Sofas... That's such a dorky configuration.

Granted, not common... but you see them from time to time, sitting and priced attractively.

My only suggestion would be to confirm the 4 year servicing had been done. This includes a brake flush, spark plug replacement, and serpentine belt replacement. I just traded mine, which was a high optioned RS. It appears the resale value is very competitive regardless of the original MSRP.
I would suggest purchasing a high optioned one for the same price as a low optioned one.

 

Higher the spec the better, find a .1 RS that has a min MSRP of 200k and go for a 210k car, the higher the spec the better the longer term value.

 

Having purchased my '16 RS last summer I went through the same process. Set my list of priorities (for me GT Silver, low miles, buckets, LEDs, PCCB and FAL) thinking it would take me a long time to find. Took one week. In hindsight could have lived without FAL, unless you need it for your driveway it seems like it's the first thing to throw error codes when battery is low. Also, I could be wrong but I think my old 997 GT3's chin sat lower than 991 GT3RS. Buckets are a must for RS, agree with above.

 

Re FAL, it does really depend on where you live, particularly useful if you ever drive through NJ for example. I have FAL and still scrape the front spoiler, getting on my lift would also be an issue

 

I do like that Silver! Not for everyone but I'm a big fan.

 

+1 FAL; needed for my driveway (GT3, not RS). Buckets are actually comfortable for me; feel better than the sports seats in the 996tt.

 

The must have options are the items you want. I know that is an obvious response. If you want to know the most popular items that people look for then I would say FAL, PCCB, buckets, LEDs, full leather, A/C, radio, and service up to date. Fortunately many were configured this way. Other than that I would then make sure it meets your expectations cosmetically. Regardless of miles, not all cars are treated the same.

 

Unless you don't plan on driving it much yourself (so buying to park cash/speculate on future value), I would not be as focused on the mileage being super low. You buy the prior owner as much or more than you buy the mileage. I focus on cars where owners are long term Porsche people and know how to take care of these cars - which in my personal opinion involves actually driving them regularly. Just my $.02.

 

That's a great point about buying the owner. I would almost rather buy privately to get a better handle on that. Looking for something to enjoy not necessarily garage furniture. I might need to be more patient in my search.
