I was ordering some parts from my local dealer and they didn't sell the BMS air filter kit. I found a set on Suncoast. Is this the best to install or stay with paper one from factory?
I am glad you posted this! I almost pulled the trigger on the BMS. Went factory RS instead and paid about 185 per filter lol. Stupid pricing, but I can stay with OE parts this way.
For those of you with touring's, you may be interested to know that a new set cost about $400 (delivered and/or with tax), either thru Suncoast, or discounted thru your dealer (where I got mine) . I think these prices are outrages, even if it is a Porsche part. What I have found out, is these filters are cleanable, as per BMC, who makes the filters. Below are photos of one of the new filters that I just purchased. If I have time this weekend, I am going to check my filters to see how dirty they are. Porsche recommends a 24,000 mile replacement interval for the filters, which seems too long to me. I have a bit over 14,000 miles, and do not drive in dusty areas. After I inspect the filters in my car, I'll report back.
I don't think anyone knows if a $400 re-usable air filter is necessarily better than a $45 paper air filter. I don't know of any study that evaluated the air flow and filtering capacity of the various filters, but maybe some racing team has done this. . .
In order to satisfy the warranty of the engine, assuming your engine is still under warranty, I would replace them with whatever air filter that the factory installed in your car.

Since I purchased new ones, I will use them. I will clean the old ones (as per BMC's instructions) and see how they look afterward. I grew up using K&N filters in my dirt bikes and simply cleaned them using their cleaning kit. I never had to replace them under much harsher conditions. The point of all of this is avoiding paying $200 for each air filter, which again, is outrages.
