Default About to pull the trigger on a 2018 GT3, have some questions please

Howdy,

I sold my 991.1 GT3 in 2016 and have regretted doing so ever since. I bought other vehicles and never felt the same. I am about to pull the trigger on a 2018 with 4400 miles on it.
here are my questions:

1- What should I look for other than the obvious (condition, tires,...) car was bought new local here in TX so no rust issues to worry about.
2- Are the 4.0 far more reliable than the 3.8?
3- How much more of a GT3 is the new one?

Thanks in advance guys!

A lot more. The engine in the .2 is a Motorsport engine with real dry sump, defoamer unit, changed internals etc. vs .1
Engine procure significant more hp, most tested above 500.
So far engine have been a lot more reliable

some other tweaks as well, aero, PCM unit in car with apple car play etc,

look for pitted windshield and headlights, inner fender, etc to see if it was tracked, not bad but negotiation point

Have them do the DME report to look for engine overrevs, have them show you what they can of the maintenance thats been done before if it is in the system, look for oil leaks in the rear diffuser under tray - there was a problem with early '18s with a bad part and oil leaks that will end up in that under tray. Have them service the monolocks before taking delivery.

Thats about all I can add, good luck!

This is at a private dealer. They do not have a shop to service vehicles. I will look over all these items for sure. The car is still under full Porsche warranty, I am sure if there are any leaks they would take care of it.
I am going to have to do an oil change, air filter change and brake fluid service as well in the first week I get it. Any need to do spark plugs yet? I saw that as part of the check list on the 2-year service recommendations.

I watched a lot of reviews, but they all show you the good/pros about the vehicle. I am trading a near brand new Z06 Corvette with 2200 miles on it that I took very good care of. It is going to be a big change for sure.

I would never assume that a private dealer would pick up everything or even know about this problem. Just have them take a look under there for oil in the rear diffuser because it was a fairly slow leak and eluded many when it happened as to why they were constantly adding oil and it wouldn't hit the floor because that pan would catch it all. Wasn't like the car was menstruating all over the floor and it was obvious, it wasn't. Don't have a lot of warranty left and it wouldn't be a cheap fix. You just asked what to look for, have someone look, fairly easy to see in there with a headlight.

I bought my car from Dallas a couple of months ago. There are so many threads about all sorts of potential issues on these forums with great information, and in August, one of these themes was looking for rust in the center wheel lock's. Probably not an issue in areas where it does not rain, or excessive humidity, but when I did the PPI, I specifically asked for them to check this (it was pristine).

The rest is the usual, check the DME report, check the brakes/rotors for chips etc (probably more important if PCCB), quality of paint (can only do if no PPF), make sure the FAL is working (if it has it), radio-speakers are all working etc. Check the underbody for damage.

My car had the service light on. It was in service a little over 1 year, and the 1 year service was not done. The PPI suggested the brake fluid to be changed as well (usually done as part of 2 year service).

My big pet peeve is making sure you get both keys. The challenge in getting a new key is that it can only come from Germany, and then the dealer needs to program it. Expensive and annoying if you don't get both.

Yes if manual then get a DME report and check for overrevs; if pdk you don't have to worry about over-revs...

Spark plugs are due at 2 years. There are 2 filters in the frunk that are due but not the engine air filter at 2 years. Also a multi point inspection in addition to oil/ filter and brake flush as you noted.

I just spoke to the servicing dealer's service department. The current owner bought it from them and the agent went over the entire car history with me. He said it is a very clean car with all recommended service done so far, less the spark plugs.
It has been checked for two track events but in great condition. I will be tracking it, so I am not too concerned. I still have until Jan 2022 before the warranty is expired. I will be extending it for sure.

GLWP, OP

On the question of plugs, open to anybody with knowhow, it has low mileage, but 2+ years old, and I assume no running issue....change plugs anyhow now or wait til mileage goes up?

For warranty they are very clear 2 years or XX number of miles on plugs. Mine has 1500 miles on it and dealer said it absolutely had to be done before the 2 year mark to avoid any potential warranty issues. Thats the dealer talking but it is in the US owners manual as well.

They charge 1800-2000 for the service since the rear bumper needs to come off. Can I do it myself and still be able to avoid warranty issues? I can buy the plugs from my dealer and do it. It can't be too difficult ore more difficult than working on my other builds.
