Sadly most just sit in people’s collections hoping that they will go up in value. The most amount of miles that I have ever seen on an R is 5k miles. I’m sure there are some people who actually drive their R’s more than 500 miles a year, but not many.

Mine is for sale right now here:

I have another one and it will have a lot more miles next year. As the flippers and collectors slowly sell to enthusiasts, I suspect you'll see more with miles. It's magnificent.

I bought mine with 800ish miles Oct 2019. It now has over 3500 miles. I plan on putting as many miles as I can on my cars while I have them (I get the most joy driving them). Realistically, finding time and spreading miles across cars means I would be happy with adding 2000 or so miles to the R every year (assuming I don’t get distracted and add more cars to the mix).

A friend of a friend spied me in my GT3 Touring on the way to work yesterday. I have 6,600 miles on my Touring in one year. I'm shooting to hit 10,000 by the end of the year. I WANT to put miles on this car.
If I had an R, I might be hesitant to put miles on it, given its status as a "collector's item."

I'm sure the R is just like any other car in a collection...some get driven.,..some don't.
I've got 2k miles on my speedster and 500 on my 2RS and have had the 2 way longer.
Some people don't drive them to hold value, some just don't love the car as much as others in the collection.

I bought my GT RS car with 3K miles (The delivery miles cars were $50K to $75K more) and I mostly plan to just keep her covered in my garage and enjoy knowing I own one but the desire to drive her is strong and she is more fun to drive then sex so we shall see how much I can keep my grubby hands off of her, haha.

How many miles the average 911R have has nothing to do with value and "collectability." It's actually simple math.
If we are talking about the original 911R owners here, then most likely that owner will have a multiple number of cars in his collection, which means the amount of mileage gets spread among his collection. Hence, the miles driven on the R is a lot less.
Compared to the average GT3/Touring owners, they might have 2-3 cars in their garage, so the amount of mileage is spread across is a lot more per car.
Original 911R owners couldn't care less about the value of their car. They paid MSRP for the car and they have more valuable and collectable cars in their garage than the R.

Pretty sure one of the VP’s at my work has an R with close to 20k on it. He drives it a lot and I haven’t talked with him personally but heard he loves it so much he drives it a couple times per week.
