The 991 GT3/RS Cars For Sale Thread...
#9766
Saw this last night. In all honesty I agree with him whole heartedly! Driven both the 991.2 and 992 on the track HARD. The 991.2 feels more visceral especially on the street and just as good as the 992. The 992 did outperform the 991.2 on the track when pushing the cars to their limits! The 992 front suspension does shine on the track BUT you will NEVER experience that difference on the street ever or jail time is in your future. The 992 is hoppy or jittery on the street as well unlike the 991.2. The 992 and all the screens, bells, whistles, dings etc was a hard no for me! Very frustrating! I can totally relate to his comments around this 100%! The 992 feels too refined and not raw enough for me as well. The 991.2 with its center screen and discrete gauge screen is a nice balance of Analog Gauges and some digital. The 992 has taken it way too far with all the screens like I was in a new Cayenne or Macan. Like keeping up with Ferrari and others with all the digital tech. Could care less about that and more about the driving experience! A GT3 is supposed to be a race car for the street! Porsche needs to take a step back here because I feel the 991.2 was the last of the great GT3 IMO. The 992 GT3 seems to cater to a softer crowd and to please at cars and coffee than at the track. Would love to know how many 992s actually are driven hard at the track? Probably a small percentage based on my experiences at the track. Too many creature comforts in the 992. Bring back the raw GT3 experience!
This ^ I feel like the 991.1 and .2 GT3RS will be the ones that really go up in value in the future, as they seem to be the last of the "raw" GT3s made.

992 has slightly longer wheelbase and much wider front track. That, and the different suspension, may explain the 992 feeling bigger.
992 doesn't visually look bigger to me, though it's slightly taller and the wing looks bigger and more aggressive.
Not sure why the 992 cabin feels more spacious, maybe the cockpit layout.

Front of the 992 is wider because of the wider front track. But the car overall is about the same width, I guess because the 991 is widest at the back.
Also, the front of the 992 visually has a wide dark band, whereas the 991 breaks up the front into sections.

It's really the cabin design, I think. It's much more open and low profile, the 991 cabin wraps around you. The long horizontal lines also make the cabin feel bigger.
The 992 has larger rear wheels and a more prominent rump and this also makes it look physically bigger.

Quickest way for me to write off a review of a GT3 is by somebody who won't track it then proceeds to throw out the hyperbolic terms like "analog" "connected" "engaging". I feel like every generation M3 or GT3 people are quick to draw the line with "the last of....." and it'll be something stupid like a new model ruined by having electric power steering or something.
This could of been a YouTube short where he said that he didn't like the gauges and moved on. The 992 GT3 is a fantastic car.

An absolute truth - Porsche always makes the next GT3 objectively faster, objectively superior in the major performance metrics. The 992 is an objectively superior car.
Subjectively, something is always lost with the newer cars. These are emotional things, so the subjective stuff matters. It's also inarguable - you can't argue against someone's favorite color for instance.
Debating subjective preferences is probably pointless at the end of the day. The people who hold on to and prefer their 991s do so for subjective/emotional reasons, and maybe that is more meaningful at the end of the day because something new will always come along that's faster and "better" than the state of the art.
