^^^matches my experience with both. .1rs is a very good/compliant road car. I didn’t appreciate this at first; at first it disappointed me considerably because an RS is supposed to be a masochistic hair-raising experience! Then after owning the .2rs for a while, some of the longer drives to a distant track got really fatiguing; more fatiguing than a long drive in my 997rs even. The steering and suspension are so sensitive/razor sharp, it can feel “darty” on a long highway trip. There’s so little play in every input: that makes it really thrilling to drive when you are “driving it”. When you are trying to “cruise” in it, it does not want to play that role. I like them both for different reasons. The .1rs was the first RS I felt was just “too soft” to wear the RS badge but I now appreciate it as the best dual purpose RS ever. The .2rs brought back my faith in porsche to still build an RS that somewhat demands your attention. To sum it up: the .2rs is more fun, but sometimes fatiguing on street. The .1RS can feel “boring” at times unless you really put your foot into it, BUT probably makes the best road car the porsche GT department has ever produced. I’m sure most assume the plain-Jane GT3’s will make better road cars. But my experience is that the 991.1-3rs is a better road car than any of the gt3’s to-date. They look so similar but drive quite a bit differently. The .1rs disappointed me a lot with initial impression but I’ve grown to appreciate it. The .2rs brought back so much excitement on my first drive around Leipzig (I was hooked again), but wore me out driving from West London to Donington Circuit early in the season, in the dark and cold (I was worn out before the track-day even started!).

Personally, I probably still choose the .2rs for its excitement and add a better pure-road car to pair with it. If I needed an all-in-one PDK solution, .1rs wins because a little less excitement and a little more “live-ability” wins out over the long haul.

i’d put the .2-gt3 somewhere in between the .1rs and .2rs for “road manners”. Obviously if manual is important to you (which it isn’t), it’s the obvious choice. If I’m going for PDK, it’s one of the two RS imo.

Good luck

Jrtaylor9 summed it up clearly the way I see it as well.

This.
The 991.2 RS is what an RS should be.

Reviving an old thread..

Truth be told you are going to read a bunch of negative opinions from people who don’t own actually or regularity drive the car they are giving their opinion on....Sort of a justification to themselves why “they” personally did not buy the car they decided against.

These opinions are not really facts based on experience but more reliant upon on as “I knew a guy” “ or I read this here”. If these statements truly were as widespread as some here state. One would expect to see 100’s of 991.1 GT3RS everywhere lying in a hump of rubble in the basement of Porsche dealerships on every corner.

Drive the car you want and enjoy the car you bought, everything else in between will either confuse you or is utter BS, and have you miss out on absolutely gem of a car.

Current 991.1 GT3RS with absolutely not one issue....

just my .2

Did you mean .2 or .02? Possible .2 was pun intended.

My .1RS lunched itself at 43000km. 3 cam lobes destroyed. now i have a .2gt3 - "feels" like a stronger engine-revs more freely. I have much more confidence in it.
I would like a .1RS with a .2 engine please btw - was a G series engine -

Since the thread is resurfaced again, I had the same debate with myself recently. I went back and forth while looking for a car to buy - I even found this thread and read through it.

I ended up with a .1RS and couldn't be happier. The car is easy to live with even with carbon buckets - I drive the car whenever I can on nice days. The slightly reduced redline isn't something you notice. I don't worry about the engine being more fragile since I bought a CPO car. I decided that if I keep it outside the warranty period or end up voiding it by tuning the ecu and the engine goes, ill just swap a .2 engine in it anyway. The thing to remember is that anything mechanical can fail, even a .2 engine/trans.

Don't get me wrong. I loved my .1RS and would still have it with it's new engine from PAG if I hadn't trashed it at the track. See my pic Sadly I was always worried about the engine as I had the first high rpm misfires at 17000km while on the track. The local dealer replaced the crank sensor. Anyway, it detonated at 43000km. I ran the new engine hard for another 42000km. Lots of track work and it was solid - never missed a beat. As I said, I would still have the car but ..... Personally, I would be too afraid to really rag on a car with an early engine and would not track it regularly. I think as a magnificent daily and occasional track car you'll be good. Also it sounds like you can do your own wrenching anyway. Enjoy the car - life is short - Cheers

Puh, I'm reliefed This means you had an engine pre-G6, with the old camshafts. Replacements are on the next level should be fine.
