Touring's like have 'protected' sex with hot partner. 911R is same partner but unprotected. That's the simplest, purest distinction.

Congrats on the purchase, F1. Enjoy. Nice colors. Never seen solid green side stripes. Tarpan interior?

And then your engine will go KABOOM after a few thousand miles.

This is the best analogy I have ever read between a R and a Touring

^^^Thanks. I don't use these words lightly. Came to me after thousands of miles. But I love all these cars, almost equally.

So if Andy Preuninger happened to mention
Monday this week that his dream garage is 1) a Carrera GT and 2) a 991.2 GT3 Touring, would this
take some of the wind out of the sails of the 911 R-sex boys?

disclosure, I have a .2 Wing.

^^^I don't really care what anyone says. These are personal subjective choices. Ain't about votes.

People have different priorities. For example, I'd take my Touring or my winged car over 911R for either frequent track duty or daily driver. The 991.2 GT3 is superior in this regard.

When Mr. Lincoln, who was very tall, met Harriet Beecher Stow, who was very small, it was reported that the great man said, "so you are the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war". Why, at this moment, do I feel a bit like Mrs. Stowe? And why can we not 'bind up our wounds' "to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves..."?

I have noticed an asymmetry though. R owners seem to be accepting that R and GT3T are both great. It seems non-R owners would like to convince R owners that they are wrong.

That's because every original R owners could have bought both cars at MSRP. When you have that freedom to choose, you tend to look at things more objectively.

Can't say the same about most Touring owners. Most of them didn't have the freedom to choose which car they wanted, so that's why you are seeing this asymmetry reaction from the Touring owners.

it seems to me — I have neither — that there is a lot of internet angst in both camps.

My dream garage is a CGT and anything else you want to park next to it

But yeah nobody can argue with that being an incredible pairing.
