Autocar - 911R

To me, the similarity is that each has a particular distinct charm and feeling of its own. And the only true comparison is that each is primarily the work of, and is very much infused with the heart and soul, and perhaps the personality of, one of the three aforementioned great engineers.

Haha. Fair enough! I think I'd seen so many comparisons to 964rs, I jumped to conclusions. Who knows, you might like them all FOR their diversity, not any commonalities.
Out of curiosity, other than no-wing, why so many 991r owners claim its a "modern interpretation of 964rs"? Because while I think they are both brilliant 911s, they seem to be such different drive philosophies once behind the wheel.

The 964RS and the 911R are as different as are Roland Kussmaul and Andy Preuninger and as similar as are Roland Kussmaul and Andy Preuninger. Not a great answer but the best one I can give. They were also influenced by the economic condition of Porsche in the early 1990's and in 2016-2017. In any event, for many reasons, in a 911, I can think of no better cars at producing a smile, albeit each a different smile.

catdog2: wait until the carbon clutch is ready for the 911R, notwithstanding the noise, etc., almost 20 pounds of rotating weight off the engine - and if you want to go all the way, revised rods, pistons and crankshaft = 3kg off the cranktrain!

So many F40's are in poor state of tune it's not surprising that people who don't have much experience with the car, other than maybe having driven "one", talk about the flaws. In my experience many (maybe most) of them aren't completely stock anymore and don't run like they're supposed to. Many had the ECU's and boost jacked with, all manner of exhaust mods, intercoolers changed, etc, but most just need to be tuned by someone who knows these cars. A good F40 had far less turbo lag than even a late 930. They feel like more power than they actually have, though Ferrari has never been shy about optimistic power ratings, so I think it's just perception since the car weighs much less than you'd expect given the size. The build quality, especially considering the way the bodywork was made, was excellent in my opinion, but you have to compare it to a race car, which it basically was. My big complaint about the F40 was that the brakes just weren't up to the rest of the car, but it's an amazing car overall.

I dont think they'll ever do a LWMF for quite some time, tired of hearing the phrase a love letter to customers, but the R truly is that, wish my bookstore was open so I could buy a magazine

Back in 2018, Total911 magazine did a cover story on the two cars because they also agreed with my view of the ancestral line. The two make up what I regard as one of the greatest pairs of Pcars anybody can own. They are blood brothers.

Anytime the letter "R" is introduced into a thread with compared to another car, a fuse is lit, gloves are dropped, a few roundhouse punches are thrown, and people lose a few chiclets.
